I'm another vote for onfield decision to stand unless a quick 30s review shows a clear and obvious error.

I'd also like to see offside rule altered to only penalise attackers if they are in an offside position both when the ball is passed and when they receive the ball. I don't understand how a striker who is beyond the last defender but heading back towards his own goal has any advantage when receiving the ball and now has a whole defence to now navigate his way past

I've been saying a long time that one of the worst things about VAR is that it has effectively removed the post Italia '90 ruling that being level was ONSIDE.

Now Arsene Wenger is looking to tweak the law so that the attacker once again gets the advantage.

Can't come soon enough in my opinion.

I like the idea of clear daylight and semi automated together as this feels like it would leave much less to human interpretation and 'good processes'.

You can gamble on making an attacking run far more as you know you can have 90% of your body past the defender and still be onside. From the moment you are taught attacking moves you are taught to bend the run, this means leaning forward. The current VAR punishes that with people "leaning" into an offside position .

This new version will free up players to again gamble on those runs and know there is a good chance their trailing leg etc will keep them onside.

It's actually a huge change in terms of margin of error given to an attacker.

I'd expect teams to sit deeper in response to it, so it might all just balance out overall.

Or play a high defence line maximising the offside trap as we have done with moderate success?

We would just need to get better at it!

I can see defences pushing right up into the opposition half, and slow defenders at this level becoming a thing of the past. The advantage given to attackers will be massive, so much so that it will probably lead to new and original formations.

Yep - exactly.

Perhaps more exiting box to box football, faster counter-attacks and more hoofing it by GKs over the top of the MFs from the back? But maybe football is heading that way anyway?

Put VAR into the hands of the captains, as in cricket. Possibly one call per match, if upheld, you keep the call if not, no more calls. VAR was supposed to be for clear and obvious errors.
