What a shame Trump didn't bother to meet the bodies of the four US military returned home after their tragic deaths during NATO training exercises in Baltics (?) - he chose golf instead.I thought anything this buffoon said would no longer surprise me, but it has. This will alienate his pal, Putin.

But they did have a major effect for that final year....as they did in WW2, which we are all thankful for tbh.But they only joined in, in WWI at the last knockings for the final push.

I am aware the US contribution in WWI was a very important factor in the final win but the way the Yanks go on about it anyone would think they did it all on their own and we were losing. They also bang on about how they paid for it all.But they did have a major effect for that final year....as they did in WW2, which we are all thankful for tbh.
It seems to be a recurring theme with the US....stay out of it until something happens to involve them, then come in all guns blazing.

The way Trump has worded that just sits very uncomfortably with me though....will raise a few hackles for sure.
Russia lost more men than the rest of the Allies put together. Putin will be furious with Trump's vain boasts. But they did have a major effect for that final year....as they did in WW2, which we are all thankful for tbh.

Russia under Stalin & Putin don't give a shit about Russian lives. Stalin killed almost as many Russians as the Germans.Russia lost more men than the rest of the Allies put together. Putin will be furious with Trump's vain boasts.
Oh, I am aware, but the Russians do take pride in their military achievements.Russia under Stalin & Putin don't give a shit about Russian lives. Stalin killed almost as many Russians as the Germans.
I would say it was actually Pearl Harbour that fundamentally changed America’s stance on WWII. Until then, it was Europe’s problem. That was mainly due to the US being isolationist. UNTIL Woodrow Wilson took up a leadership role and started the failed League of Nations.
Please don't use racial slurs on here. Suggest you edit your postAnd largely wouldn't have touched WW2 were it not for Pearl Harbour.
It’s more nuanced than that but basically it was Germany that declared war on the U.S a few days after the U.S. declared war on the
Don’t get me wrong, the US had a huge part in winning the war. Upsetting that Trump has weaponised the brave work and sacrifices of American soldiers.

Same way before 9/11, America’s involvement in foreign wars was largely in South America and to a lesser extent SE Asia - Post 9/11, Bush’s War on Terror began a whole new era of political and military intervention in the ME.
Same way now, the war in Ukraine is regarded by Trump as a European problem.
Does anyone else see pattern here?
The American psyche is ‘isolationist’ until it affects Americans personally - that was why the war in Vietnam was so unpopular when body bags in the thousands started being shipped home - American lives being lost for what?
I literally thought until this post that nothing Trump could do anymore could surprise me, but this has somehow managed it. He has swung so far into parody he must have put a whole generation of comedians out of workI thought anything this buffoon said would no longer surprise me, but it has. This will alienate his pal, Putin.

To be honest, I'm surprised at this announcement - only insofar that he hasn't personally 'decided to rename' it US Victory DayI literally thought until this post that nothing Trump could do anymore could surprise me, but this has somehow managed it.
