I’m not a fan of trump he has done a lot of ridiculous things but also a small number of decent stuff but the USA is not our enemy & never will be.
For nearly a thousand years, the idea Britain and France could be allies seemed ludicrous. Yet we’ve since fought two world wars on the same side.

Global allegiances and alliances shift. Sometimes glacially, sometimes very abruptly. Happens all the time across the world. There is absolutely no guarantee, none whatsoever, that the USA remains our friend.

It’s interesting the level of dislike aimed on this thread against the American regime.

The whole movement of Leftism is centred around anti American & anti westernism.

The leftists have typically collaborated with reactionary forces that are against the west so historically they were aligned with the Soviet Union. The leftist feminists would visit the Soviet Union & come back & say what a lovely country it was to live in.

Meanwhile Stalin was killing millions of his own people.

Noam Chomsky for example wrote Manufacturing convent which has influenced the leftists to think the most ridiculous ideologies.

After 9-11 & the collapse of the Soviet Union the leftists started to look for a new ally.

Islamism was starting to take a foothold in the leftist circles & they started to say the same rhetoric they said after Oct 7th.

Oh the jihadis they are just victims of western imperialism. Poor Bin laden fighting against the west despite the fact he was at the time the biggest terrorist in the Middle East.

So the leftists felt they now had a new ally against the west.

Once it was formed they just had to behave in the same way they did when they were aligned with the Soviet Union - that is they knew exactly what was going on but as it was their ally they had to whitewash the crimes of their ally & instead intensify & magnify conversations about anti westernism & how the west is bad and how anything the Islamists do that is evil & wrong is only a reaction to the big bad west.

He has managed to turn many people like me against the USA, as middle of the road in politics as they come in so far as I've voted for both sides of the divide in general elections and am not married to ideology.

I have American friends, most of whom are severely embarrassed by trump and his government and I have always been very pro American. I am sure this sentiment can reappear but you are mistaken if you think the dislike of trump and his minions is confined to people on the left.

It doesn't take much political nous to realise trump has no clue what he's doing and additionally if one is on the whole, a good person with generally sound judgement, then it's also apparent that he and his mates are the very opposite and are actually very nasty bullies who sadly have brought their great nation into a state of disrepute that I and millions of others around the globe can scarcely believe.

So here is trump, who is currently refusing to comply with court order to repatriate someone sent in error to El Salvador, saying they will soon start sending home grown people they don’t want in America.

The weekend’s comparisons with early Nazis won’t be going anywhere fast.

One of those sent to El Salvador is a 19-year-old with no criminal record, no tattoos, and apparently even ICE knew at the moment he was picked up that he wasn't the intended "target" - but they took him anyway:-

I work and live here so I don't really have much choice, but why TF would anyone choose to visit the US right now? Is it worth the risk?

Jesus, what an absolute load of codswallop 🤣🤣

Every single person I know, be they a 'leftist', centrist, or more right-wing leaning, thinks trump and his cronies are utter ****s, without exception. Surely absolutely no-one thinks otherwise by now bar the absolute loonies

Just give El Salvador the joint stake in the World Cup next year, given a large number of the fans going to the games will end up there on the current rates. And if we think it won’t affect us from England / Europe, I can’t imagine fans of sides like Iran, Colombia or other nations which might qualify will be relishing a trip to watch their team play in Miami or the like.

That utter sham between Trump and Bukele today regarding Kilmar Abrego García was just disgusting.

Each shrugging their shoulders and pretending they are each powerless to get him out of that horrific prison and back to his family.

It's hard to believe this stuff is actually happening.

What’s hard to believe is that there are still people saying we can’t compare to some of the goings on about a hundred years ago in Europe. It is shocking. The way the media is being taken over and deporting people and eradicating any political opposition etc etc. it is horrendous situation.

The multi-pronged attack on the US legal system, due process and justice is, as you say, horrific...
