[Albion] Crystal Palace vs Brighton & Hove Albion *** Official Match Thread ***

Dorset Seagull

Once Dolphin, Now Seagull
I think we lack a creative midfielder who can make those killer balls to break down a deep low block. Wharton seemed to be doing this all the time.

Most of our midfielders are mainly DM’s like Baleba or B2B like Gomez and O’Riley. Pedro plays too high to do it and Ayari is a bit lightweight and still learning

Was the performance really as bad as some are making out? We had more possession, xG, touches inside the box, shots and shots on target.

Yes, we could have played more direct, especially when they were down to 9 men, but the main difference between the teams was the goalkeepers. Bart saved 1 of 3 shots on target, Henderson saved 4 of 5 and was MOTM on the BBC website.
I’m guessing you didn’t go to the match?

As they say, you can only beat what’s in front of you and i love it that you assume we’d have beaten Fulham at the Cottage 😂

I'm not criticising them for beating what was in front of them, but you're making out like it's a great achievement when it's clearly not. We beat Chelsea at home and won away against Newcastle which is a tougher fixture than Fulham (and obviously I'm not claiming we'd have beaten anyone, but we did beat a couple of tougher teams).

You know we're above them right? Hardly clutching at straws.
Wasn’t really having a pop at you per sey but as someone’s already mentioned we’ve got padded seats, The Terrace and our woman that lean out the window don’t have chlamydia however ultimately they’re at Wembley, end of. I don’t recall any complaints when we drew the mighty Grimsby Town last time out.
I fuckin hate Palace but we can hardly hold them accountable for the draw.
Yeah we’re above them, are you happy to put your house up as a bet that that’ll be the case at the end of the season? [###cough## …last season…]

I'm not holding them accountable for the draw, but it's silly to be in awe of them for beating one single PL team.

We don't know what's going to happen but we're currently above them and favourites to finish above them, so to look at their form this season with envy would be a bit backwards.

You love an argument don’t you Trig, at no point did i say it was a “great achievement” all i’m saying is i predict they will end up having more to show for this season than we will, feel free to bounce my prediction if im wrong, still we’ve got a fantastic Training centre and all the infrastructure to be mid table specialists 👍

“In awe of them” ? Let’s not go mad here.

Favourites? We were 2/5 to progress v Forest, that’s professional punter territory. We know how that ended.

Shout out to stadium announcer who I thought was good value with then FA Cup Semi final reference on more than one occasion, also that the missed pens from the child at half time counted for 2 points so Palace won 3-2. Thought it was quite amusing and wonder whether RR wound have done the same if presented with the same opportunity.

In short I’d rather watch us playing like Palace recently, who have defended brilliantly and been clinical on the break, rather than the absolute dross up front and in defence that we have been subjected to in the last three games

It hurts to say it but Fab has been owned by the opposition manager in all three games this week.

I am genuinely concerned that abject Leicester may put the final nail in the coffin of our season. I have seen nothing to suggest we’ll roll them over.

Fingers crossed that the players are up for the next few games and the manager gets his tactics right. It’s not over until it’s over.
I was surprised by the stat they mentioned on MOTD, that it's the first time since 1930's that one of us has done the league double over the other.

Albeit we had many seasons in different divisions, but in recent past, we've played most seasons in championship or PL and Fab now has the unwanted record of being first manager for over 90 years to lose both league games in a season.

And that when they were considerably lower in league both games.

Special mathematics apply to football supporter calculations. Fact.

:shootself
Well let’s hope that we don’t lose to Leicester! I do not want to be right about losing to Leicester and the knock on effects in the following games. Even the mighty RDZ couldn’t turn around his end of season slump. Sure it wouldn’t be mathematically possible for a loss to be the “final nail” so shall I change it to the ‘straw that broke the camel’s back’ for our realistic European chances?

Any fan who could feel optimistic about Europe if we lose to Leicester is a better fan than me :lolol:

The first time they have done the double over us in 92 years,

We've done it multiple times since then.
Most recently in 18/19

When it really matters we fold. Palace in the playoffs, in fact anyone in the playoffs, winning the championship, cup semis at Wembley, this season any game that matters.
Tend to agree. As a club, we can’t get over the line when it matters. This current crop in particular.

Still none the wiser if we will come good with FH. We will need some new players that’s for sure. Lack of game management and ‘taking a blue pill’ crap he spoke about before playing Forest and Palace (keeping your cool), resulting in rather insipid performances and particularly how they start each half, doesn’t help my faith. Also bloody hate how he talks about repaying the fans after the 3-1 then the team produces that second half. Weak from the players, managers or both.

Just have this nagging feeling that as long as fab is manager we will be shite Vs palace..... That's not to say I'm fab out, just is what it is.

If They get raided this Summer, I think we'll be ok.
I can't see them being as effective if the lose 2 or 3 from:
Guehi
Glasner
Munoz
Mateta
Wharton
