For a self proclaimed palastinian with a green card this doesn't seem like the smartest article to write....

I thought you said this thread was full of scaremongering. Surely, you don't think the US will arrest and deport a columnist from a international newspaper just for commenting on the current situation, do you?

She states that she got the green card ten years ago. She is therefore eligible to apply for US citizenship; I'm surprised she hasn't.

My green card came due for renewal in 2019 and I had the option of renewing it or applying for citizenship. Given that Trump was President, with his rhetoric on immigration, I reasoned that there was a small, but non-zero chance that things might get messy for anyone who wasn't a citizen. It was certainly a factor in deciding to get my US citizenship (I've always expected to permanently return to the UK at some point, but I want that to happen on my terms, not the US Government's).

Isn't the States meant to be the land of the free and freedom of speech ? ..... oh
It’s a bit like Boris Johnson and his freedom speech during Covid times….you’re free to do what you want as long as it’s his version of free. Do anything slightly off-script and it’s a different story.

We'd planned a three-week visit in July taking in New York, Niagara Falls, Falling Water, Detroit and Chicago but no longer. Going to Croatia instead.

I'm heading for Orlando in early May for work. I've been visiting the US regularly since 1999, and I can honestly say I've never looked forward to a trip less.

I know not aimed at me, but I personally couldn’t think of anything worse than a day in a theme park in the UK let alone one with wobbling bottom yanks waddling around.
This. US National Parks, absolutely fantastic. Theme parks? Once was more than enough.

Same here. I’m actually going to Florida in September but won’t be going anywhere near a theme park. Rockets however……

Quite.

The absolute anathema to me.

Theme parks or Vegas.

I don’t understand the appeal.

Constant noise. Other people. Excess. Expense. Faff. Queues. Bad food. Ugh.

Gotta question the kind of person that would class that as a good holiday.
I think Las Vegas has to be seen for 2/3 days maximum. Not for the for the gambling but just to see what a nutcase town it actually is in the middle of a desert with the mad cap themed hotels. I’ve done it twice, but only part of a longer fly drive trip but couldn’t stay there for more than two nights.

I went in 1990 when I was a student beckpacking around the US, it was still a bit sleazy then, especially the Fremont area….it seems quite different these days.

I mean, if it’s your thing, who am I to knock it but I really didn’t think I have to see it. I can well imagine.

But yeah, I imagine two nights would be plenty.

Surely one day of that trip would be spent at the Grand Canyon and Hoover Dam

I flew over the canyon and the dam but the national park at Flagstaff on foot was way better.
