This is how they work now, obfuscate, deny and then lie about it until it goes away. Nobody is ever held accountable.

And it’s not just in this current administration, or even just in the US. Look at Johnson’s government over here, exactly the same modus operandi.
With the difference that Johnson knows the difference between truth and lie,
but enjoyed lying so much he was positively squelching with joy every time he did it,
and his own party despised him for it, seeing him as a wanker,
and got shot of him.

Trump doesn't know the difference between truth and lie,
and will say whatever suits him, on a whim, to further his interest,
and his own party loves him for it. seeing him as a winner,
and will line up behind him, the venal shits.

This means I have some regard for the integrity of the tory party.

Feels dirty though, doesn’t it?

The messages bemoaned Europe not pulling it's weight in bombing the Middle East and protecting trade in the Suez Canal. However, the USAs ponchent for bombing the Middle East and backing brutal regimes is precisely why the area is so dangerous in the first place.
At least our government won't play Trump's game and slash social spending to pump money into the arms industry....

It's nothing like it in ours, we have far more checks and balances. Our PM can't pardon him/herself for breaking the law, and if they go rogue there can be a simple vote of no confidence, which only needs a majority of 1 to pass. Also, our PM can't just pass any law they like, they need such laws to go through the house of commons and the house of lords. Trump is proving able to do anything he likes, because their democracy is not as well set up as ours.
nor can POTUS, they have to go through congress to change laws and even states to ratify really important stuff. it's up to the Repulicans really to see if they want to maintain their Republic or not. trouble is they seem enslaved by the cult of MAGA and willing to drive off the cliff. and the voters who put them there. no point blaming democratic process and institutions when those elected do as they said they would.

They can sign executive orders, and Trump is trying to make it such that he's the one who interprets the law.

It's unfathomable.

no point blaming democratic process and institutions when those elected do as they said they would.

I disagree, a more robust setup could stop him.

The reality is that Team Trump can continue their campaign of lies, nonsense and bulldung because THEIR audience believe them completely. The people who are convincable aren't interested and it doesn't matter at this point anyway. Had this happened in September/October 2026 then maybe it would have had an impact on the Mid-Term elections but it won't have any impact at all. It's obvious to anyone paying attention it's a massive clanger but those people simply don't care.
They'll just distract everyone with something else soon, and they'll all move on....

Well that’s not strictly true.

Some of our most questionable legislation has not even gone through Parliament or been debated - the PM has the power to change existing laws through Statutory Instruments - the rights to protest for example were severely restricted by the introduction of new laws made by Statutory Instruments (secondary legislation)

The PM/Government can take the Country to war without even putting it before Parliament.

Much of the Pandemic legislation putting the Country into lockdown was not debated in Parliament but introduced by amendments to existing Statute law by using Statutory Instruments.

The Prime Minister can do whatever he likes under Emergency Legislation

Understood, although there'd be an easy route to remove the government if even half the MPs were against the decisions.

These MAGA freaks are off the scale. Imagine ACTUALLY voting for these people.
I have to laugh at this woman when I hear her open her mouth. It's just not worth my energy getting as angry as I should about her.
