I've just been on a Reddit forum, where Trump supporters were cheering these latest deportations - many of them boasting "This is why I voted for him", and also claiming that people who refused to buy Tesla cars were basically 'terrorists'. As was anyone who engaged in any public demonstration, and therefore ought to be locked-up. According to one poster, the only people who object are "faggots and lezzers"!

Needless to say, when I asked about the Trump goon-squad which stormed Capitol Hill in January 2021 - who Trump pardoned - they went crazy (or even crazier than they already were)!

Thing is, the list of targets for deportation, imprisonment, or sacking, will keep growing, as Trump, Bannon, Musk and Vance need to keep identifying new 'enemies' to keep their fan-base onside. However, sooner or later, some of those who are cheering Trump's bullying will find that they themselves will become targets.

I know it's become a cliche, but looking at Trump's US right now, I really am reminded of this once again:

First they came for the Communists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Communist
Then they came for the Socialists, and I did not speak out because I was not a Socialist
Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out because I was not a trade unionist
Then they came for the Jews ,and I did not speak out because I was not a Jew
Then they came for me, and there was no one left to speak out for me.

I can’t see or hear that now without quietly repeating to myself
They came for Dani Behr, I said she’s over there behind the wardrobe
Damn you, Half Man Half Biscuit!

Sadly, you have hit the nail on the head there. There is an old saying.. " The more things change, the more they stay the same ".. so, I think we can almost juxtapose Hitler and Trump on current form. Trump is aggressively targeting those who disagree with him and those who displease his fanbase while also targeting the pillars of society. It's pretty obvious he is declining mentally day on day as his speeches, and replies to questions are almost cryptic now. I said it was scary months back, its only going to get worse.

How does someone who is clearly neither intelligent or articulate become President. I say that not to be sarcastic but am serious. When he talks he talks like a Mafia Don. 'You don't got da cards' ' I'm gonna have you whacked budda bing'. The fact he is so popular with so many yanks is a sad reflection on their mentality.

The deletions began shortly after Donald Trump took office. C.D.C. web pages on vaccines, H.I.V. prevention, and reproductive health went missing. Findings on bird-flu transmission vanished minutes after they appeared. The Census Bureau’s public repository went offline, then returned without crucial directories of geographic information. The Department of Justice expunged the January 6th insurrection from its website, and WhiteHouse.gov took down an explainer page about the Constitution. More than 130,000 government pages have gone dark in a purge that one scientist likened to a “digital book burning,” and which has proved as frightening in its imprecision as in its malice.
But on this front, at least, the Trump Administration is facing well-organized resistance. It comes from a loose coalition of archivists and librarians who are assembling information arks to ride out the chaos. The Data Rescue Project, founded by a data librarian, now includes more than 400 volunteer backups of government repositories, from the C.F.P.B.’s Consumer Complaint Database to the C.D.C.’s National Immunization Survey. When asked who was contributing to these backups, an administer of the tracker had a simple answer: “Nerds who care.” Julian Lucas reports on the volunteer archivists and data hoarders working to save the country’s files from DOGE: https://newyorkermag.visitlink.me/gGON14

No worse than Boris Johnson being popular with so many Brits.

No worse than Boris Johnson being popular with so many Brits.
Bit of a difference though, Boris is both intelligent articulate - neither of which meant he was suitable for high office.

What is "intelligent"? Johnson had the most privileged education money can buy and waffles in Latin to create a veneer of something that impresses people who sadly don't know better. He is one of the most despicable individuals ever to surface in public life.

I agree mostly but at least Johnson would know there were no airports during the American civil war.
