I've just realised something this morning. The US has only one of two possible futures:

We know Trump et al will dismantle democracy so they'll never be voted out. Any future elections will be rigged. This means either America will continue to be a major global threat for the foreseeable future - expanding territory and destabilising other (democratic) countries. Think Russia but with way more money, power and influence.

Alternatively, enough ordinary Americans fightback and it's civil war 2.0. Either way, the future is not looking good for any of us. I hope we can keep our humanity, support our friends and try to resist this creeping evil.

Sadly I agree with you - maybe it's just my mood that's been pummeled in recent weeks, but I basically agree.

In some moments I 'pray' for a military coup (why not, Putin prayed for Trump hahaha). Trump will replace any top military that won't do his bidding - perhaps some of them (furious rather than content with their payoff) would join rank with in service military leaders.

What could push this to the edge? Orders to invade a Canadian state, or Greenland?
Signing an agreement to sell military jets, patriots (haha), ATACMS etc to Russia??

I know, it all sounds utterly remotely ridiculous to me too...but then so many other things would have until they happened in the last month.

Here's a comment and a response on a thread I chanced upon. 'Grok' is Musk's own AI Assistant apparently. The two folk in the dialogue raise the possibility of Trump calling for Martial Law in the US at a key point...therefore preventing elections for as long as he determines.
Anyone on here think this is a ridiculous possibility? I don't any more.

Yes, I think it may be likely to happen as the regime is intentionally creating chaos by tanking the economy while weakening the country's ability to react.
When riots break out(and they will), that will be a welcome a reason to declare martial law and sending the National Guard into the cities. Of course you can't expect any election to be held under such circumstances, so Trump and his gang will stay in power. ""

If read this a couple of weeks ago Eric, I found my instant gut reaction to headline was no chance and no thanks, but became a little more compelled by time I'd finished.

It's still hard to get head around reality of Trump and Witless and their plans to hand Putin victory of some sorts for pieces of silver, that is reality and China whilst extremely nefarious, is still acting a lot more statesman like than the 2 wide boys in the Oval office.

From Beijings POV, they'd love to drive wedge between US and old allies, they also will be acutely aware that Trumps plan is to peel off Russia and drive a wedge between Xi and Putin, so them being involved also signals to Putin that hey, we could change sides here too

For Ukraine, China involvement may seem more appealing than Trumps designs to carve them up and profit from Putins genocide?
