could be argued that he should be playing at a higher level but i don’t think a season netting 30 goals or so for USG would do him any harm at all

Better make sure we don't get into Europe alongside USG again then, eh?

Except he absolutely is.

He's constantly running whether that be pressing or tracking back.

The amount of times either Welbeck makes a challenge on the edge of our box or the ball breaks to him there and he plays his way out of trouble is ridiculous.
By stamina runner we mean someone who is able to do that in the 90th minute as well as in the 1st.

Certainly not doubting the effort he puts in during his minutes on the pitch.

Wont matter. There won’t be further transfer bans. It was put in place as part of the restructuring and TB reducing his shareholding in USG to ensure no conflicts of interest.

The only reason we’d have to worry is UEFA do not allow clauses that prevent players from playing against their parent club, so if we played USG any loan players they had from us would be free to play.

I’d still prefer Ferguson had a season in the Championship. Play a lot of games, hopefully score a hatful of goals, and come back full of confidence. He’s young enough for this.
Indeed, although maybe a loan to a newly promoted club might suit him better. It hasn't done Buenonotte any harm (he was on fire at Leicester before horsehead turned up and alienated him), and I'd guess Enciso probably wishes he'd taken a similar path from the beginning of the season.

I thought TB had made those changes before the ban started? Oh well, if we can use USG again that could be useful.

Agreed. Two things have stood out to me about (our most regular captain?) Welbeck this season. First, the amount of times he's sensed the danger of a counter-attack and led the charge in busting a gut to get back to help his teammates ... and, second, when leading the team out of the tunnel he intones "run hard, do all you can to help your teammates"

Someone will be able to post the stats but I was surprised how many full games played in the first half of the season. Given FH's insistence on running further than your opponents, I'd suggest that this means that FH thinks that Welbeck is a stamina runner.
To somewhat support your case, on a couple of occasions in 2025, ie after the injury he had in Dec (and Jan?), I've noticed that he didn't have the sprinting power on display previously. That's obviously something different to stamina running, but it might explain why Welbeck hasn't played full games in 2025 but equally it might be down to having Joao Pedro, Rutter also available.

Dead handy defending corners on the near post too
