Nice with a goal, certainly needs it.
Wonder if its going to do much for his West Ham situation though. As long as Bowen is playing up front its going to difficult getting into their eleven.

The more I watch Ferguson play, the more I think that whilst he could be a player that regularly gets 20+ goals a season in the Premier League, his style is similar to a Murray or Wood.

Forest would pay a lot of money for him but remembering Potter’s limited use of Murray, I wonder if he has the game to be a Potter No.9? I’m of course referring to stamina running, high pressing, regular sprints and the ability to go past players on the dribble.

Murray was 200 years old though and kind of finished.

Ferguson could play in a Potter team but not this West Ham. Their midfield is pretty junk and they need someone more mobile so they can play more direct. In a normal Potter team, with lots of possession, Evan would have a better chance.

The handful of minutes he gets for West Ham is more than he would with us given the current competition, but ultimately its still not what he needs. For next season I hope he goes on loan to the Championship or a good league abroad. He isn't good enough to be a 100% starter in the PL and need to swallow all pride and play in a less glorious league for a year.

Will Evan and his advisors accept a Championship loan though or do we end up with a Connolly situation or a sale being forced through ?

In his best patch in 2023 (at barely 18) he was bloody fantastic. There is a hell of a player in there and our club would be bat shit crazy not to do everything to get the lad to discover that form. Even if Potter isn’t the right coach, a change of scenery and seeing what the grass is like somewhere else will hopefully be a tonic for EF. The Irish goal is an excellent first step.

Yes, Murray was finished midway through the previous season and this played a part in our considerable downturn during 2019 under CH.
I'm really pleased for Evan as that finish was just like the Evan of old, similar to the one he put away against Wolves. In order for the Evan of old to fully return, he's going to have to do it on a regular basis.

Contract until 2029 means the club hold a lot of those cards, anyone not living under a rock will know the club are rarely foced to do anything. If he wants out permanently then it will require a club to hit the £?m buy figure, and I suspect given the 2029 date that figure will still be large.
This could depend on where we finish too, UCL or UEL and we will need another striker in the squad, or we don't finish in Europe and Pedro then likely leaves. Either way we need another striker and I'm not sure it's fair on the Greek lad to drop him straight into that, so there could be an Evan shaped hole in our squad for 25/26 anyway.

I’m not going to go as far as saying @Harry Wilson's tackle is in danger of losing this, but what I can say is that that was a very nice goal. Abysmal marking in the final third but you takes your chance…
He looks fit and healthy and it’s really great to see him marauding around the pitch.
Given he’s meant to be a sensible kid with sensible people around him, I suspect he wouldn’t be that against a loan next year now he’s seen his options (of meaningful football) aren’t particularly better elsewhere.

You don't turn down Bayer Leverkusen in favour of West Ham in January and end up in Norwich in July.

He'll either come back and be reintegrated (with a full pre-season under his belt) as the first choice striker for next season (whilst Tzimas settles in) or he'll go (either permanently or temporarily) to a top-flight side at home or abroad.

Absolute nonsense that it'll help him to go and score 20+ goals at a level well beneath what he can perform at just for the sake of it, it proves nothing. Evan just needs game time (as he partly proved last night). I hope that's with us and if not, as he proved in January, there'll be no shortage of suitors offering him that in the summer.

What a banger of a goal. It's all that work he did in the build up - the vision and movement - that's been so lacking in his play over the last year or so, we know he can finish

Unless he starts doing thar regularly at West Ham a season on loan in the Championship could be exactly what he needs - and this is the opinion of one who would have poo-poohed the idea of a Championship loan a few months ago; times change, and so must plans. Just my opinion of course - the club's views - whatever they are - are the ones that matter!
.........and that goal he scored the other day, he would have scored whether in a Potter team, a de Zerbi team - or even a Hughton or a Hyypia team!

I'm another one who thought Ferguson should have been loaned out to a Championship club. Coventry or similar. Understandably, having previously scored goals in the top flight Evan would have needed convincing.

If/when he does go out on loan again, the club, Evan and his representatives probably need to be more realistic. In the short term. To benefit his future progression. A young Harry Kane etc, etc.

It's not about proving something, it's about getting him match fit and confident. In the PL this season he's not been good enough, because he's low on confidence and not match fit. Consequently, he's not getting picked and so can't get the match fitness or confidence.

Evan just needs game time

Yes, but Brighton and West Ham haven't been able to offer that while he gets up to speed. I don't see what's wrong with him getting that for half a season in the Championship. Of course there are options abroad, but that means relocating and learning a new language and fitting in with a different culture, when he could get what he needs in a few months here.

Done a Frexit, now in London
Should have sent him to Hearts on loan. I think most of us here could tear up that noddy league.
