Think you've got it right. Newcastle win the EFL Cup and go on a month long binge thus crashing down the league. That leaves 7 spots for 7 places (5+2)

What? If Newcastle win the league cup and finish 7th, we would need to finish 6th to get European football (can be 8th depending on fa cup too).

So which is right?

7 spots for 7 places assumes that we get the extra place for the Champions League (which is almost certain) but also assumes the FA Cup winners also finish in the top 6.

Winning this trophy is bigger for Newcastle than for us when we got promoted to the Premier League.

How Eddie Howe will get his players back on planet earth to compete for European places is anyone’s guess but I suggest it will be very difficult indeed.

I can’t see any benefit to the Albion of Liverpool winning. I’m hoping the Geordies do it and spend a month or so on the sauce celebrating and simultaneously dropping down the table like we did when we gained promotion handing them the title.
