[Other Sport] Snooker…. “Golden Ball”

Hern and the Saudis hosting a tournament with the inclusion of a “golden ball” worth 20 points, only to be introduced when the player has pot the final black on a 147 run….

Whats the point? A 147 is incredibly difficult to achieve.

To be honest, I thought it was April fools day when I read it.

any why 20 points?, 1 point would achieve the same result, why not 8 points or 53 points? (Make it a nice round 200?)
What’s the point? Literally
It is possible to hit a 155 in snooker (free ball as an extra red followed by a black giving an extra 8 to a 147),so just nine or ten would ensure beating that.

But anyway, suspect next step is to make the pockets bigger

The most ridiculous suggestion. It doesn't need to be mucked around with, it's the ultimate challenge in the sport and the fact it happens relatively infrequently (less than 200 times in tournament snooker) means it always creates so much much excitement.

I think if you're going to play with the sport to create wider interest you could potentially play tournaments on English pool tables but it would be a different sport altogether.

It's a lot of fun but a half decent player can clear the table in one visit.

Read about this in a couple of places, the ball is off the table until the 147 is done but where does it get spotted?

As said already by others, a stupid idea and a pity so many names are being linked with going out there for the tourney.

If it was actually a gold ball and if potted the player won the ball then that would make some sense but just to get a higher break is nonsense

I quite the like the idea of snooker plus more than the golden ball. I though they were adding it for the whole game. What's the point of waiting for a 147, which rarely happens anyway and is special enough.

(other than the gimmick to get us all talking about the tournament again of course - damn we have fallen for it).

LIV Snooker? I guess once we allowed them to use Golf and then football for Sportswashing it was inevitably going to attempt to ruin other sports. I'm surprised they've not yet come for cricket.

To buy up all the pro snooker in the world and create LIV Snooker would cost the Saudi's less than one single LIV golfer contract. It is a no-brainer.

They'll make the holes in golf bigger too.

I know I said leave snooker alone but an interesting variation would be to distance the higher scoring balls at the other end of the table, so have yellow and green where the pink and black are and vice versa, see if anyone can get a 147 then, or century even!!
