So would I with the tax bill he’s likely to face
My understanding is that the tax bill he'll face isn't with the UK, it's with the Saudis. He could be paid tax free there only if he did at least two years. Saudia Arabia has (apparently) a flat 20% income tax, so that works out (if all the reported numbers are accurate) in the neighborhood of £7m he owes them. Not sure what part of your anatomy they'll lop off for tax evasion...but you might want to just pay the bill.

Ajax are off their collective rocker breaking their wage structure to bring that turd in. Mind you, they spent £12m on Chuba Akpom so there's clearly someone with limited mental capacity making the decisions.
I wonder what they are offering him. According to some sources, he was making £700k/week in Saudi Arabia (other sources seem to suggest about half that). Which is about €815k/week. According to this site (which I have no idea of the accuracy) https://www.capology.com/club/ajax/salaries/ Ajax's highest paid player (Bergwijn) is on €89k/week. So about 11% of what Hendo was making.

At least nobody can accuse him of moving for the money this time.

Don’t think so. There is no personal tax in Saudi Arabia, but he needs to be out of the UK for specified period (think it’s 2 years) to avoid getting hammered here.

I was basing that on what I originally read in the Daily Mail (yeah, I know, but that was the first link I saw that "broke" the story)

With Saudi Arabia operating a flat income tax rate of 20 per cent returning to England after six months would leave Henderson with a tax bill of around £7m.
Which I assume meant he'd owe the Saudis 20%. Of course, the Mail is garbage at the best of times, but I would assume they don't have a particular political axe to grind with the Saudi tax system. So if they are wrong, it's probably just their rank incompetence that caused them to write that.

A little digging around does seem to suggest that yes, Hendo could well be on the hook for UK taxes if he moved back to the UK:

And that would likely be 45%.

Presumably hiding out in the Netherlands for a couple of years could avoid that.

I asked bing chat about it:

So I'm increasingly inclined to believe that the Mail is just full of shit and simply making stuff up. They likely knew there were some tax implications and then just pulled the rest out of their ass.

Jordan Henderson: Ajax close to signing England midfielder from Saudi club Al-Ettifaq

"BBC Sport has been told the league worked quickly to resolve the situation amicably, with no-one being blamed for the way things have worked out."

I blame Jordan Henderson for the way things have worked out.

100%
& the laughable bullshit he came out with about his decision to go there in the first place (which caused the waste of space that is the England manager to back him & look even weaker than he did previously)

Ah, actually the Guardian has that 20% tax to the Saudi's too.

That salary would have been tax free had Henderson stayed for two years. As it is, he will become subject to Saudi income tax at 20%. At the very least, he is losing £3m in tax by leaving now. But there’s also the fact that he will be tax resident in either the UK or the Netherlands for this tax year. In the UK, there’s effectively a 47% tax rate, including national insurance, on income at his level. In the Netherlands it’s 49.5%. And that means a substantial additional bill.

So looks like he might owe the Saudis 20%, plus ~50% to the Netherlands or the UK.

Ouch.

I wonder how long that super-talented manager Stevie G will last out there?

He went for the money pure and simple, and it’s ended up costing him a fortune and effectively ending his top-flight and probably England career. He was Liverpool captain when he jumped.

Ouch.
He shouldn’t get taxed twice as there’s a tax treaty between UK and Saudi, imagine there’s the same in Holland.

Cut him some slack. He probably never knew it was racist and homophobic out there……
Oh and f*****g hot.
Don’t forget he’s from Sunderland,
Yup. He knows he'd get DOGS abuse every week here. The smattering of boos he got at Wembley would be multiplied tenfold at every away ground.

Shame. I'd have enjoyed that.
To be fair he didn’t get much at Wembley vs Italy, I didn’t hear any.

Fella sat near me who was at Australia game said it was audible at that game but it was a different crowd; much more like a women’s game according to him. Lots of young eager first time fans with their faces painted embracing the pantomime atmosphere and older more grizzly friends of Dorothy.

That cohort evidently didn’t turn up for the big game…………..
