Birds on our feeders

We have a weeping silver birch in the back garden from which we hang feeders, from our 'garden room' we can sit and watch but due to our crappy health they are all empty. Note to myself, wrap up and get them filled in the morning.
Yeh, right! For me it's joy of filling my bird-feeders and hanging them on my bird-feeding station. on the fence, on the washing line, in the trees at the bottom of the garden and in the beech hedge at the side of the house - knowing that in a week or two - or maybe three - I'll be throwing away all the uneaten food, cleaning out the containers and going through the whole process again.

Without having any birds coming anywhere near........

Very occasionally a blue tit or great tit will drop by briefly, and even more occasionally a gang of long-tailed tits, but these are red letter days. Normally the only visitors are magpies and a squirrel, both of which try to rip them apart or steal them (sometimes successfully with one or both).
Note for keen students of natural history, In Gloucestershire neither tits or squirrels have the slightest interest in nuts; just seeds, and to a lesser extent fat balls. Contrary little buggers we have round here!

We can't do a bird feeder as our cat catches and kills many birds as it is, even a little Robin one Christmas. 😪

Water biscuits
Pork, Any kind as I can't get any out here and miss it terribly. When I left the UK it was bottom of my meat list!
Robinson squash, very hard to find so I stick up when I do find it.

The scraper thing for the car. I don't have a rear wiper so it gets used most mornings to clean the rear window.

My PS5 dual charger for controllers so I constantly have one fully charged.

Crisps. Don't even care what kind. Just love me some crisps.

If ever a thread epitomised the NSC demographic, this is it.

Slowly, we have collectively slipped from an age when such a question might have prompted responses such as “playing football, birds, sex, beer, away games with mates, clubbing, gigs, drugs, visiting new countries, pulling on a Friday night out”, then past – with barely a murmur – another age when things like “time playing with my kids, a date night with the missus, holidays, fine dining” might have featured, to now.

Bird tables and country walks.

Shoe horns and teabags.

Thermal clothes and – oooh, the outrage – a risky 'dicing-with-death' glass of grapefruit juice.

All it needs now is a poster to chip in with “a nice afternoon nap, Werthers Originals and some comfortable slippers”, and – yup – we’re done.

Bozza can hand the keys to NSC to St Peter*, gently power down the server, and a metaphorical field of poppies can grow over us all.

*Other faiths and opinions are also available.

Definitely couldn’t do without my birdfeeders. Watching birds coming into the garden is a daily joy I couldn’t be without. Despite the cost and work keeping them all clean and filled. Declining health the past 18 months has meant I am no longer able to go off birdwatching for the day or go on birding holidays as I used to so it isn’t insignificant- it is essential to my mental health.

My travel mug. After years of trying to find one that a: keeps coffee hot enough to drink, and b: I can drink out of without removing the lid or spilling coffee down me, my latest one is 100% perfect.

And saves me a small fortune not forking out for coffee at the station every commute.

My thermal snoods. Absolute GAMECHANGERS for my winter walks, and when I'm sat in the WSU. Scarves are useless in comparison, and have been consigned to the back of my pants drawer.

Can't wait to see what the freebie snood for STH renewers will be like. Looks a bit thin, but may suffice when it gets a bit warmer.
I think you are going to be disappointed Easy.
The snoods are being sent to Albion+ members, STHs don't get them.

If you think that's insignificant, this cost less than £200! ...and is so.much fun
Funny isn't it, one of my fave basses is a Korean made Danelectro . . . £130, a good clean/set up and a set of strings (£11 trade )

My Rick has been with me so long its cost 5p a day ;-)

This! I say it once every year, this is the best thing I've ever bought! Some German engineering behind this masterpiece, I don't know what you call it in English, but it is for your Christmas tree. Just make sure the tree stand straight, pump the pedal and you are done! Outstanding!!!View attachment 172921
We have one of those too. Marvellous invention.
