I agree with this.

And I think loaning players out will be Chelsea's strategy with all their flops. But the issue is finding someone who will pay 80%+ of the wages they pay. I bet Chelsea doubled what he was on here when he signed for them. This takes us out of the equation. More likely it will be someone like Newcastle.

Personally I don't really want the fella back, but yeh i'd swallow it and get behind him if it came to pass. I absolutely hope and think we'll be looking at Barco first and I don't doubt we also have less high profile targets. We need someone in this position.
I’ve seen numerous suggestions that he’s on £175,000 a week for the next 7 and a bit years

Utter utter mugs, (if true).

It will be near impossible for them to find someone who'll pay that or any percentage anywhere near that. Certainly no Spanish team. They would struggle to give him away on a free transfer if he's on that wage.

More likely he'll collect his wages while contributing very little, Anthony Martial style

175k per week = £9.1 Million per year - £63.7 million over a 7 year contract.

And so if we (or anyone else) were planning on signing him, we would have to honour or improve on those existing terms, or the player would not agree to it.

So the question isn't, what would the transfer fee be? It's more like, what would they have to pay us to take that contract off their hands? Like a reverse transfer fee. If Chelsea offered us that player on that contract, plus £20m, i'm not sure we'd accept it. It might have to be more like, the player plus £30m?

More likely to be a percentage of the wage paid by each club for the duration of the contract. They pay 60% we pay 40%, for example.

Really can’t see it happening though, Barca are still said to be interested and we can’t even guarantee him starts.

Also, I don’t think we need to keep going back to ex-players nowadays. I know we’ve done it a lot in the past, but we are a completely different club now.

It's not as if Chelsea have history in this regard.

I can't think of a better signing as a backup for Pervis. But I can't imagine he'd be happy to do that.

Fans definitely over-estimate the issues around someone like him coming back. I would have thought Bloom / Barber and most of the squad were very happy with the way he left and how it worked out financially, it's only the fans it would be an issue with. And we all know how fickle football fans are.
Agreed. After all Glen Murray came back and was welcomed with open arms - and he went to Palace! Some fans might have an issue with the fact that, unlike Murray, he agitated to leave, but players can and do go back. As fans I don't think we should be so precious as to how professional footballers go about earning a living, but of course we are, it is about emotions and feelings after all.

I do think as far as Cucu coming back though the ship has sailed, for the reasons you and others have said.

That's more than likely. If a club values the talent of a player enough that they're prepared to pay a £60m transfer fee, then the player's agent will be negotiating a weekly wage commensurate with that.

Absolutely no chance we would take him back on anything like those wages. He would not be first choice and they will have someone better already lined up.

I hope all clubs refuse to engage with helping to dig Chelsea out of the FFP hole.

Colwill for 15 million works for me - desperate seller who has to sell 👌

Anyone we've sold for big money yes, because of wages.

Though I don't think we should rule out revisting an academy player who we let go but has gone on to do well

Problem is for them he isn’t the only player on a stupidly long term contract and a massive wage that isn’t performing - their recruitment and contract strategy appears to be coming back to bite them on the arse much quicker than any of us hoped. They’re going to be forced into selling academy products to balance the books, and they won’t be able to spend much more money until they do.

It’s hilarious.

The issue being that if they’ve done well at a high enough level for us to consider them ready for the Premier League, they would likely cost more than we’d be willing to pay. I’m thinking of Gyokeres here really, with prices of £40m+ being put around.

Can’t really think of any others to be honest.

He wont be far off double whatever we were paying him for sure. No way he ever comes back to us. In fact the only way I can see them offloading is to Saudi as no one else will want to pay those sums.

Doesn’t mean to say the Board or management team would want or welcome him back. No Dickeads Policy and all that.

I'm not sure that Cucurella (or Caicedo) failed the 'no dickheads policy' and personally think it was more a result of naivety on their parts. As far as I can remember the only two that had documented dickhead behaviour leading to their leaving were Trossard and Sanchez

You maybe correct but if their agents are dickeads we probably won’t want to deal with them. Didn’t Calceido make himself unavailable or am I getting mixed up?
