Here's a simple question. Why does a defensive unit of a GK, 4 defenders and two CMs start games so badly?

Well we haven't had any var apologise this season yet, now we are due 2
I think the offside one is subjective - so fair enough really. And we did have quite a bit of time after the foul on Solly - they rarely pull it back for things like that (for all teams not just us). We only have ourselves to blame today.

Same against AEK. First to every ball. Faster, fitter, stronger, more aggressive. More incisive.
I think you could say the same in the games against Luton, West Ham and Bournemouth too. Luton and Bournemouth weren't good enough to take advantage, West Ham were.

I'm sure the freshness of that first half slaughter is blurring perspective a bit but right now it's something that worries me.

On paper the starting 11 looks OK but again not enough players at their best or even close to it.

So so poor.
Everything we usually do well has been missing, RDZ got his tactics wrong and allowed Villa to boss the middle.

This is the worst we’ve played under RDZ. Feels lethargic, too many errors and giving the ball away. Villa not letting us down the wings and leaving poor Hinshelwood and Gilmour alone in midfield. Ferguson getting no service.

I’d take him off and pack the midfield more.

Ah well. Move on I say. Or we are about to see an amazing comeback!

Don't let the dodgy VAR calls overshadow the fact that we've been awful. Misplaced passes from the beginning, not tracking runners from midfield, no composure in defence. We've looked like we've turned up expecting to be admired and been shocked that a decent side wants to get at us. No excuse for this kind of complacency. We always get beat at Villa Park and should have been as on it as we were against Newcastle.
