Strange. I was there a couple of years ago and thought it was nice. Certainly didn't feel unsafe in any way at all.

I think it depends which side of Milan you come from. If you come to the canal side from Porta Genova it doesn't seem bad at all. My girlfriend wanted to check out the art university there so we came to the canals via the neighbourhoods. My Italian friends from Milan thought it was really stupid of us.;

It immediately gave me the vibe of don't talk, put your phone away and make it look like you know where you're going.

I do think everyone has to be on their guard, but I will say Newcastle fans have not exactly been subtle, shall we say, flags from bridges, colours everywhere. AEK I don’t think will be bad with us, Marseille is always gone be ropey. I think it does sort show that the advice the club gave us is very important.

Having shared a drink with some Milan Ultras a few years ago in Milan, they’re definitely not to be messed with. Showing me their knives etc.
I went to a match at the San Siro a while back. Got on the train to the game and found myself in a carriage full of ultras. Bloody hell, some of the scariest people ever. Tattooed faces, chains, leather, big rings, but not the smiley types you might get in some Brighton establishments! Really nasty looking people. I stared at my phone to avoid eye contact and got off at the first stop to wait for the next train. Genuinely unsettling.

Tattooed faces ! How is that ever a good look . Can that be solely blamed on mental health issues

Yeah he was showing me a knife, and then whipped out another knife that he says he uses when they play Livorno or Bologna. Two quite left wing clubs, I did wonder or not to tell him I was a trade union member :lolol: . Nice Chap.

Does leather intimidate you ?

A quick look on Twitter videos of it kicking off in Milan last night both sets of fans having a go. It won’t be peaceful in Marseille the Ultras will have a go at some point.

100%. There has been so many "I won't be a target as I'm a middle aged man and won't be looking for trouble" comments on here in the last few weeks. It's naivety in the extreme. This guy was 58. Hardly a young wannabee burning flags and pissing on statues.

As someone on here pointed out recently, we have fans complaining about the smell of vapes on here. They are in for a bit of a rude awakening.
Unfortunately that's the harsh truth. At least fans who have followed England to Marseille and similar shitholes will be going in there with their eyes wide open. It's the innocent elderly bloke with the double knee replacement who will be most at risk from the cowardly **** with the knife. Sincerely hoping for the best but sadly expecting the worst :down:

Makes sense, we definitely came from that side.

Huge assumption you're making there I'd say. I'd love to see a detailed blow by blow of the guy's (and I wish him all the best) antics leading upto this incident. Something tells me he wasn't taking in the local architecture and enjoying a couple of breezy aperols in the local pizzeria?

Face it, our fanbase simply doesn't have this element. There's going to be no big gathering of lagered up, topless white van men in their 40s and 50s in central Marseille next month being big and loud and making their presence known. I don't think there'll be any trouble at all.
Also a huge assumption

To be fair, you don't know what sort of person he is. There are plenty of load mouth middle aged relics of the 70s/80s that still think like they are in that era! We don't know whether he was in his colours giving it large with his son or if he was minding his own business and in 'plain clothes'. Either way, doesn't deserve to be stabbed but one type of behaviour is likely to make you a target!!
