Zerbi specifically said in an interview we were never in for him. We couldn't afford his wages.
Where? How would we know his wage demands if we weren’t in for him?

Because presumably we would make some enquiries (and no doubt have some informal conversations with his agent) before we got to the stage of being 'in for him'.

So we were in for him but not in in for him?
In a word, no.

We weren't apparantly ever in for him. The recruitment team will have a huge database of players we could be interested in, and are doubtless making enquiries all the time sbout dozens of them. That doesn't mean we were or are 'in for' any of them.
I have absolutely no doubt that the recruitment team will have detailed information, including likely wage demands, about Zaniola and loads of other players most of us have never heard of (and probably never will). The idea that because of gathering that information we're 'in for' dozens - or even hundreds - of players is obviously nonsense.

If I remember correctly DZB said he likes him and whilst he is within our age requirements he would be outside of our financial structure which I took to mean transfer value.
He's gone for £18 million and he's on £60K a week, 4 year deal. So Trossard wages and a £10 mill saving.

I was more just going for the classic Micky Flanagan "out out" vibe.

We monitor hundreds of players which could be phrased as taking an interest in them all (as opposed to actively trying to sign them all).

Or in other words "in" but not "in in".

Didn’t realise managers at BHA spoke about targets - need to be careful assuming what people have said is correct. Club won’t be too keen on that. If the 60k wage is remotely true it’s also not true that we couldn’t afford his wages…! So many hearsay stories around always in transfer window time 🤣

AC Milan, Juve, Villa, Newcastle all linked with him for £30 million. Would've been a great little bit of quick business- Galatasary signed him less than 6 months ago.

Didn’t RDZ mention he likes the player although out of our price range, I’m guessing wage wise.

Couldn't believe it when he went to Galatasary. I thought he was really one for the future but if the other teams just let him go abroad just like that then now I wonder.

I saw Brighton linked again the other day, but it said he wanted to stay one more season in Turkey.

These aren't the players you're looking for.

Yep this was the guy.

Yep, 6 moths ago.

We never took Zaniolo into consideration,” said De Zerbi. “He’s a very strong player and age-wise he’d be eligible to join our side as Brighton look for younger players with high resale value.”

“However, Zaniolo is financially out of reach for us,” he clarified.
