I have no idea how you choose a first team squad from this lot
You don't; you can't. You rotate everyone in and out. TB wants to succeed in the PL, in the cups and in Europe -- his scouts went out and found him enough good, versatile players to compete at every level. The bench will be as deep as the starting lineup, every match, even taking a few injuries into account.

I see no legitimate reason to doubt that this season will be even better than the last.

For a friendly, it was OK. But at times it reminded me of the second Everton game. If a few of our mistakes had been converted by Brentford we could have lost that. Need to get a settled back 4 soon. Saying that Adingra and Pedro look very special. It will be a very exciting season ahead.
Exactly like the Everton games. Teams will come at as like that next season so our defence needs to be bang on it (especially if Moises leaves). We will unquestionably get the odd drubbing again next season.
My god it's exciting up top though.

Not sure about the raving over that performance. We were very sloppy, constantly giving it away in our final third. A better team would have punished us. Yes there were positives, Pedro and Adingra standing out and of course Moises when he came on. But our passing from the back was off-kilter tonight. We got away with it - this time.

One that's anti-football, kicks the shit out of opposition, time-wastes, solely plays long ball/ counter attack and the most creative it gets is diving for free kicks to lump into a 'big bloke' to nod in.

Don't they even have a 'long throw' guy?!
I find Brentford an annoying and difficult side to play against but to call their style "anti-football" is ludicrous. What does that even mean? That they're not letting us play through the press with ease? Better get used to it. Think we'll see that a lot this season. They’re a tough side to beat which is to their credit — but definitely to our credit that we managed to do it tonight.

Adringra’s eyes prior to his second were textbook on the slo-mo.

Staring so intently at our other players running in, the Brentford keeper buys it hook, line and sinker. Adingra just passes it round him with no real resistance because he has bought the dummy.

Steele seems to be on a mission to fastrack himself to legendary status.

What he is now is a brilliant ambassador for the club, role model for the youngsters and leader on and off the pitch. Then there is his football.

Impressive person.
Agreed. I’m such a big fan of his on many levels. His redemption story is fantastic.

He was outstanding tonight.

You won’t see that defensive line-up again this season in a competitive match.

The sloppy stuff will be gone once the likes of Dunk, Igor, Estupinan and Milner are back in defence.

Here's hoping, because that was a little bit shonky tonight.
As ever though, you can never read too much into these games.

Let's not put too much pressure on Igor yet. At 14 million he is a squad player and one who joins us off the back of a very inconsistent season that included 12 yellow cards and two reds. Suspect he won't be that safe a pair of hands for a good few weeks.

reminded me of the first half dozen games under deZerbi when the players were still learning the passes. i counted at least 20 missed passes in the defensive area in the 2nd half and yeah we need to fix that before we play a team that will exploit it. Thought Adingra's instincts were class, reminded me of the early Glen Murray days when he just seemed to know where the net was.
Wonder if some players will be kept for Euro matches only due to fitness, like Milner and Lallana, possibly Veltman and unlikely to see a full season from Gross this year - hes getting on a bit now 🤣

The team that didn’t even get on the bench tonight…….

——————-Sanchez——————-
Lamptey—-Dunk——Julio——Milner
———-Moder———Leonard————
March———-Lallana—-—-Sarmiento
——————-Welbeck———————
Strength in depth. Handy when you are about to embark on a European campaign.
Assuming Armageddon doesn't break out!

Didn’t think it was great . Sloppy and limited control of game . Dangerous going forward though

Only a friendly though so boxes ticked

Adingra and Pedro big positives

Brentford very effective with the press . Our cbs struggled with passes ( Webster esq) and midfield looked disjointed at times .

Onto the next

This.

A totally makeshift defence and Alzate starting at CM. And, as much as Webster was great for Potter (and at times his dribbling was absolutely key to it), his passing isn’t RDZ quality under pressure.

This was a training game, getting players like Hinshlewood and Adringa used to the way we play. Just as losing to Chelsea really didn’t matter, so winning here was a bonus result as to what was otherwise an early run out.

Did relatively well. Brentford seemed a bit desperate at times, with some of their play. I would agree with @Colonel Mustard in that they weren’t anti-football last night (I relate that to time-wasting etc - see both games last season), but they were niggly.

Haven’t read the thread, but felt Steele was outstanding if not a little careless with his passing at times, but that is the purpose of warm-up games.

Love Pedro and Adingra, Gilmour very tidy, still work to do, but this is extremely exciting.

The only player I’ve thought hasn’t quite shown up so far IMO has been Enciso, though obviously hope he’s okay after the knock at the end.

Caicedo has been brilliant.

But also, Dahoud has done some incredible things this half! Ridiculous passing. Really exited to watch more of him.
Caicedo was. But Dahoud was a little quieter than the first game, though enjoyed the bit when he was effectively cornered, created some space and clipped it over the area to Ed Turns.

The way that these games are dressed up and presented as competitive fixtures means that people think everything about them is more important than it actually is. Without the TV coverage and hype around them, there would be a very different narrative.

However, I'm not complaining - any opportunity to watch the boys is fine with me!
