They talk the big talk about FFP but how many Prem clubs have really fallen foul of the authorities?

It's all just lip service and I can sadly see a day when the whole of the Prem is owned by the Saudi's and there will be very little the governing bodies can do about it.

Believe me - the first billion pound player is not far round the corner!

As many as 1 in every 47 people in Saudi Arabia is a victim of human slavery and in forced labour or worse. There should be some level of prohibited trade but obviously oil overrides principle.

money talks, the UK gov't only wants to ingratiate itself with the Saudis. They (the Saudi's) are buying sport, golf, football, I imagine tennis will be next. F£$£ing fossil fuels. Fuc$ed it all up.

This whole Saudi thing is a f***ing nightmare (leaving aside the human rights abuses, beheadings and the rest*)....we now have two clubs in the Premier League who can quite legally get around FFP regulations. The playing field wasn't level anyway, but now it is basically a vertical slope. No wonder Todd didn't seemed concerned about FFP....as soon as they get near the limits, they just sell an ageing "star" to one of the PIF teams for £100m, job done. [*which obviously should very definitely NOT be left aside].

As we know, Chelsea were funded for 20 years by a Russian oligarch, whose proximity to Putin caused him to be sanctioned, forcing the sale of Chelsea. Lo and behold, Chelsea is now owned by a corporate VERY closely linked to the Saudis....who have been massively enriched by the war in Ukraine (I read that Aramco, the Saudi state-run oil company made $160 bn in profit last year). You couldn't make it up.

Luckily I'm not interested in golf....as the Saudis have just bought the whole sport! They are throwing obscene amounts of money at it (eg: they offered Tiger Woods around $1bn to join the LIV tour). However, it can't be too long before they own the IPL and a whole range of other sports (see their attempt to sponsor the Women's World Cup).

But back to football...it is going to be seriously depressing watching this thing play out in the Premier League. I thought I disliked Chelsea too much (even before Potter)....but now it's at a different level.

It's a disgrace. The whole thing. Utterly sickening.

This makes depressing reading, it appears the Saudis are bailing Chelsea out and aiding them in avoiding FFP which is enabling Chelsea to spend more millions on another raft of new players.

It stinks but nothing will be done about it as we all know. Maybe Boehly is not the buffoon he has appeared to be.

It will be interesting to see how City, United and Liverpool react to this, they are the ones most at risk of being blasted out of the water by Chelsea and Newcastle. City can probably compete but the other two?

I agree that the Saudis are the worst of a bad bunch. No argument there. Unfortunately Newcastle fans don't get a say in who stewards the club. We should, as should any fanbase, but we don't.

What pisses me off are the children and morons with Saudi flags on twitter, or those that leap to that state's defence.

That's my instinct too. A tiny few would join you to be replaced by silverware hungry newbies, the rump left would justify it with:
a) Well, everyone else is doing it.
b) I blame the PL, it's not my responsibility.
c) I want to see silverware, I'm entitled to that.
d) Conveniently .... we shouldn't mix sport and politics. Innocents being executed lumped in with 'politics'.

I‘d hope it would be more than a tiny few, but you may be right. Anyone who walked away would of course have a queue to take their place though, that I’m sure of.

How many Geordies gave up their ST’s when Saudi Arabia took over? Once the takeover was back on, remaining ST’s (they had spares from folk who’d given up in protest against Ashley) sold out within hours.

Telling us all we need to know about 99% of football supporters.

Yep exactly experience with my Geordie mate. I love him, he's a great bloke but he has simply looked the other way and is outraged by any suggestions of impropriety on behalf of the ownership. He just keeps trotting out 'keep politics out of sport' and fails to see or refuses to see that that is exactly what most of us are objecting to with regard to their situation.

Just normal people, a nice bloke along our road. Frustrated by years of Ashley, I just think he’s someone who doesn’t analyse sad things about the world (so wouldn’t be suited to nsc ).

There’s a lot of it about. We have a Ukrainian refugee in our family, she recently posted to her 200 UK followers online about Putin bombing the dam, murdering people and animals. She was ignored by 198 of the 200, she asked me why. The consensus we came to is that Brits like to look forward to that next drink, party, TV prog, collecting that gas patio heater, buying fireworks for the wife’s 35th birthday. Coping with life’s ups and downs by shutting out stuff like Ukraine, ManC cheating, murderous regimes buying football clubs. They call it being an optimist.
