I believe what Barnier said was that we would be welcomed back but I don't believe there was any detail on the deal. Although I've no doubt we could negotiate a veto on the Euro and Schengen as before, I can't see us getting anywhere near the reams of vetoes, allowances and extras we had in the brilliant deal that politicians of all political hues had spent 40 years negotiating.

And don't forget, all the time we were negotiating that and shaping our membership, we were the second most powerful state in Europe. That ain't happening again anytime soon

I've always found this and the "you lost, get over it argument" weirdly reductive. Lot's of things happen. Why is this the only thing we can never revisit?

My point is the poll question is not so straight forward. If we could simply rejoin the SM/CU on our terms then it's a no brainer, but that will not be the option, we will have to reinstate freedom of movement which people voting don't realise

As I have said before, rejoing the CU/SM is the silver bullet to get the economy fired up again. That said, I think Europe has had enough of the UK, and there's not big clamour for you, so I'm not convinced it would be that easy to rejoin.

Its almost like belonging to a supranational political/economic union makes little difference in stimulating economies/avoiding recession.

I agree with you though, there is no great desire to revisit the Brexit melodrama on the continent or amongst sensible political leadership in the UK.

Indeed. I reckon Schengen and Euro opt outs are very achievable but getting that rebate back is surely more difficult.

But it hasn't been "done to death" has it? Sure, the discourse has and it's tiresome and repetitive, but as far as I can recall Brexit has only been "done" once, and even then in a sort of half-arsed kind of way.

And they would let us back in. They said as much this week

Patronising and condescending jibes at Leavers questioning their ability to comprehend such matters makes things worse.

Comes down to a previous comment about folk not even trying to make this transition work, simply hoping for bumps in the road to allow for hand-wringing and 'I told you so'.

Just so that I understand correctly, the reason Brexit has been an unmitigated disaster is condescending jibes, people not believing/trying harder and James O'Brien ?

All the other members are trading more with eachother rather than the UK, so we gave up all the revenues from sales to the EU and they get the extra business for free, plus we still have to pay in with our huge divorce bill, plus surrendered our rebate - all for nothing. oh sorry, we took back control
