With the other thread on Ferguson we are literally turning into the big clubs pet feeder project. I get sell occasionally to balance the books but two top players gone in a single window isn’t great is it? Clubs will be all over Enciso and Mitoma this window or next.

Out and about in Brighton today, the only shirts I saw eg Five Ways were Chelsea.

Not a Brighton or Liverpool shirt in sight.
Did they all insist that Abramovich buying Chelsea and blowing the market out of the water with a load of money stolen from the Russian people was actually excellent because it stopped Man U winning the title ad infinitum (conveniently ignoring that Arsnenal had done quite a good job of that in the preceding years anyway)?

Todays Argus article says “The Argus understands that, as of today, there are no ongoing discussions over either Mac Allister or midfield sidekick Moises Caicedo.”

So who’s lying? Or it’s all being kept very secret.
There doesn't need to be contact. If there is a release clause (Romano says there is) then they just agree personal terms and Liverpool come and meet whatever the conditions are. The Athletic were reporting 70m Euros (there may or may not be other stuff in there too).

….despite PBOBE publicly, repeatedly and regularly saying we don’t do such clauses

Ornstein wrote in The Athletic:

“Despite signing a new contract in October that secured him until 2025, there is a good chance the midfielder will be sold and there has been lots of debate about whether or not the deal includes a release clause. It is understood the terms do, indeed, contain a mechanism which can be used to help facilitate a move and that has contributed to the level of interest building to prise Mac Allister from Brighton.

This is thought not to be a typical release clause other clubs may simply trigger, leaving the player to choose their next step, but a more complex feature that gives Brighton a say over the outcome”.

The additional clause will simply be 'only bids from club X, Y, Z apply'.

Which makes sense, otherwise Mac would never have signed a new deal knowing he could walk away Jan 2024 or Summer 2024 for free.

I went to a huge state comp in the 70’’s/early 80’s, where most kids liked football. Plus loving the game myself I’ve always chatted about it with colleagues or anyone.

In all that time I never met a Chelsea fan and just one Arsenal fan at primary school. That was it. No Arsenal or Chelsea sports bags.

What changed?

George Graham caused adult friends/family I knew to ditch Leeds, Ipswich, Brighton. Ken Bates belated big spend (Vialli, Hoddle, Zola) but more importantly Abram got a whole load of other blokes to jump ships.

Just in case you're not trolling, here's a little video reminder of what Mac Allister offers.

Just saw this for the first time. His 'problem' is that he makes the sublime and incredibly skillful techniques look easy and nothing special.

But he is a very special player and I am proud to have watched him play in the stripes for the past few seasons and really do wish him well for all he has done for us. Could easily have gone at Xmas after the WC but stayed loyal and got us into Europe and only been completly complimentary and thankful for his time here.

Could also have coasted last few months, to stay injury free before a move. PL players have done that. Instead he gave everything to get us to Europe.

He’ll be in all time Albion 11, possibly forever.

I hope over time that some people don’t denigrate his supreme skillset and application. There’s already been a “is he all that?”. Do they actually go to games sober?

There will not be a release clause, we do not do them. There will however be a number that Tony will accept and I expect Liverpool or someone else will meet that. The Albion want to retain the leverage in negotiations when they can. We will not stand in the way of players or managers for that matter but we will not be mugged off.

The level of fee will be revealing.

Arsenal under bid for Caicedo at £70m. Perhaps £80m will take him?

Mac’s a WC winner who’s a consistently outstanding cm in the PL with goals. Open market, £70m?
We will never know, it will be undisclosed but that won’t stop journalists announcing the transfer fee which may or may not be right. The Albion and the buying club will not be publishing the fee, or any more than the very basic mechanics of it if there are things like payments in instalments and sells ons….imo.
