[Albion] If we want to rub shoulders with the elite, we need to get used to this feeling.

Okay, aside from Bruno Fernandes punching the ball into the net in the last minute, that may have been the worst possible way to lose the game.

But. If we want to break into the the top 6, top 5, top 4 or whatever. We need to get used to this feeling. It's not going to be easy. We can't get complacent. I know it sucks right now but we need to assume that it won't be decades until we have another chance at an FA Cup final.

Let's beat Forest and fight to get ourselves a European place. UTA!

Brighton factually.....

We are a very very good side currently, but our lack of depth was evident today, when we really could not bring on a game changer or equal to a player who started bar Veltman.

I agree that the squad was an issue today. I fancy it would have been a different outcome if we could have brought on Lallana or Sarmiento for Enciso and Ferguson for Danny W. We were also missing lamptey who would have been very useful.

We really need to add another striker to the squad. I can’t believe how badly Undav did today. How on Earth did he score all those goals in Belgium? I know the standard is much lower but that chance he had today I would expect a national league striker to get a decent shot away. Good pen though.

Agreed. No one can tell me Undav was the ‘algorithms’ - it was just a cheap, easy, convenient signing. Would have done better to keep Maupay

This is exactly what I wanted to write earlier but I didn't want to pass as a completely clueless non-Brighton fan. I'm obviously influenced by my own experiences and my club, but RDZ said that same thing before the game. And cups are cruel, in one single game anything can happen. We got frequently jeered here in Italy because we're the team with the most CL finals lost in all of Europe, we lost 7 finals of the 9 we played over the years. And yet I'd do it all over again. As we say, you can only lose a final if you play in it. You can only lose a FA semifinal if you reach it first. The higher you get the bigger your heartbreaks will be, because you'll get closer and closer to the shiniest achievements. Now this is behind you, there are many still ahead and your hunger will only grow, as it's bound to be. Only thing you're missing is a little more depth in the squad, not necessarily with excellent players but at least capable ones.

As for Undav, he never played well as a forward whenever I saw him play in one of your games, it almost seems like he'd do better as a midfielder because he really doesn't have the necessary quick-thinking in the box. I don't know if you can still salvage him.

Don't worry I'm pretty sure I'm a clueless albion fan anyway! Your team have had a tumultuous history full of heartbreak and ecstasy, but as you say, you'd do it all again. That's football isn't it. I'm going to assume RDZ is going to convince them this game will not define their careers, more that it will act as a springboard to kick on.

They say you've gotta lose one to win one. What we did here was gain a whole lot of experience. Ten Haag did us tactically and we need to learn to counter that blocking of the middle. We also still need too many shots to score and when our finishing improves the. We will move up another level.

More off the bench would have definately helped too.

Undav doesn't have the touch, movement, positioning or passing for midfield either. Let's face it he's just not a player for this level. As someone else said he was just a cheap punt who'd had a season of scoring goals. Its fine for the club to take a punt once in a while but it's really obvious.

And I'm really really not someone who slags players of or tries to pick on individuals usually. It's just apparent from having eyes. It's not his fault he didn't buy or pick himself but we need massive upgrade for that area next season.

Very fair, and my view too. He’s not a bad player, he just isn’t a PL player. Not by a long way.

mate , i was watching him wondering what he was thinking .......he's like a camel in a laundromat , we can all see him out there but none of us really know how he got there , he had one decent chance and murdered it , great penalty though. How many times have we said " oh for the want of a top striker" 3500 3501 times..??

We have not replaced Trossard or Enoch so we are short of 2 first team players and it showed today , our squad was very weak
Yeah, I hadn't thought of that. I wonder if we will do some squad building in the summer.

There were not many on the bench that gave us alternates and options to change things a little. Albeit with our injuries I felt like our bench could have provided a bit more.

Why "if"?

We're not ickle Brighton.
We have broken into the top 6.
That was our 2nd semi final in 4 years.
Our squad is festooned with international players.

It's about time us fans f**king well owned the fact we are a big club and acted accordingly.
F**k all this 'happy to be there' bullshite, let's grow a pair and kick the f**king door down, march in chin up chest out.

I blame Potter for backing 5 subs.

I don’t really … but it’s just yet another one of those things that has weighted the odds in favour of the clubs who can afford to collect players like Panini stickers. Even more depressing in the other semi where, if somehow Sheffield United had been able to stay in contention, City could just swap out half their outfield team for fresh international superstars. Only the ineptitude in the running of the richest clubs for long periods of time makes football worth watching any more. Without all the inherent advantages that protect their positions, I think the top 6 would be refreshed far more frequently.

If we want to rub shoulders with the elite, we have to eventually sign players that are ready for the here and now, to bulk up our squad enough that we can survive when there’s injuries. We’ve been on fumes for weeks now, one or two injuries away from a starting 11 with 2-3 18/19 year olds in it. Or Undav. And yesterday looked like it finally caught up with us.

Saying that, it still blows my mind that the commentary team mentioned all of Utd’s injuries but didn’t mention ours (that I heard). Yet they brought on £200m worth of talent with some in reserve. We bought on talent that cost about 5% of that. The difference was stark on such a stage. And no, I’m not suggesting we need to spend £200m. We just don’t want to keep leaving our squad as threadbare as it is now.
