It follows an impartiality row over comments he made criticising the government's new asylum policy.
In a tweet, the presenter had compared the language used by the government to set out its plan to "that used by Germany in the 30s".

He did criticise Saudi Arabia and the BBC let him do it. He didn’t boycott the tournament, I think it would be unrealistic to expect him to do that, it’s his job.

I don't know. Perhaps his excitement of the WC transcended his concerns over human rights. Or perhaps he thought it better to be there and witness the human rights issues and sportswashing.

But rather than try to catch him out for what he decides not to do, why not support him in what he does do?

I’m not saying it’s only Lineker , I’m sure he’s a decent enough man if a little full of himself at times . But lots of well known ‘ celebs’ I hate that word, endorse various good causes concerning justice & human rights but then you find out later they have done a private show or event for some Uber rich person or regime with very dodgy human rights etc . So you are criticising Lineker because of some unnamed celebrities have endorsed something but done something else that has got them money from something that may or may not be dodgy. An example of an unnamed person, doing an unnamed thing at an unnamed time.

by your own statement, until they've claimed asylum they acted illegally. also, if its legal to cross in a boat, why are we asking for legal routes to be provided? i dont know why people keep getting hung up on this issue, all you're doing to dragging the argument back to a side issue rather than policy. sure its better to use other language such as irregular or undocumented, it doesnt make the act of crossing a border by irregular means lawful. thing is people will cite rights and delarations when those documents are very vague on such details (literally one line in the original UN Declaration on Human Rights).

This bill, the government is pushing through, is to enable them to imprison every person landing without trial, for deportation, and not consider asylum claims.
This will make matters worse, because the boats will still land, but instead of asking for help, the landers will disappear into the black market, trafficking and other horrors.

If the government's Rwanda policy ever gets off the ground it will cover 2 days worth of arrivals. Their plan is completely unworkable and it won't be a deterrent

I think you've mis-read that article. The quote is clearly attributed to Jonathan Gullis.
