Is it, though? I'd say the comedy world was pretty strong right now.

Definitely been a push back and comedians just not caring about the consequences as they are seeing it doesn't really stop them selling out shows.

Helps some of the biggest names in stand up comedy are the ones pushing back.

Yes, sadly I think the same. Unfortunately any new ideas he has are all rubbish anyway, in evidence I give you 'Hold the Sunset' which was shockingly, shockingly bad.

Without wishing to come over all 'woke leftie' I don't think people like Cleese (old men who've had a good run) should still be making TV shows. Sit back, enjoy your retirement, don't tarnish your legacy and let the youngsters have their turn.

And the best most youngsters come up with is "let's reboot that old thing that was very popular once".

He's all 'anti-woke' now, isn't he? It wouldn't surprise me if this was just an elaborate way of him - and people that share his views - to say "You can't say anything anymore" when it fails to get any traction.

Can't these people just leave things alone? Have a new idea FFS!
Ah yes. This is the sort of thing I’d except.

Episode 1. A trans person comes to stay a Fawlty Towers. Basil doesn’t know whether to address them as ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘they’. Hilarity then erupts as Basil frequently gets the person’s pronouns wrong. The trans person then wishes to make a complaint, Basil hands them a form to fill out with a choice of only ‘Mr’ or ‘Mrs’. It’s a comedy overload as the trans person refuses to fill out the complaint form because their pronoun is not an option and Basil gets increasingly angry and abusive.

Think I’ll give it a miss.

Perhaps the remake will find a home on TalkTV or GBNews enabling it to be left to die in peace.

Woke and cancel culture are responsible for ruining much of todays society . It is not up to A few loud mouthed entitled people to police society .
Go on then, I'll bite. I thought it factors such as the cost of living crisis, freedom to abuse on social media and an increased division caused by people asking you to choose a 'side' that was having the biggest impact on our world. But it turns out it's a few people telling jokes – who knew?

Care to offer a few examples of how 'woke' is 'ruining' society? Even better, what about an example of someone ACTUALLY being 'cancelled'?

Sounds hilarious- that could happen in real life quite easily. No one is against trans but plenty of people are sick of the criticism of people who make genuine mistakes . If someone looks like a man , I’ll assume they are a man , if they look like a woman , I’ll assume it’s a woman . If I get it wrong , I’m sorry but don’t jump down my throat.

99.9% I will be right .

Pretty certain I won't count whatever this abomination will be as canon.

Cancelled or rather trying to because it’s usually done by a few people on social media who usually think it can only possibly be their opinion that counts . I’m not talking about obvious or serious wrong doings but stuff that clearly even moderate people have different views . Like trans issues and all the grief JK Rowling has received . None of it necessary or needed . I personally don’t know anyone that doesn’t agree with Rowling on the trans issue .

Woke culture example . One of the funniest comedy’s in the last 10-20 years is Come fly with me & little Britain . Very funny because it parodied the differences between different cultures . It wasn’t nasty or attempting to stir up hatred against any particular culture it just played on the stereotypes . That’s why it was so funny because the stereotypes were recognised by the viewers .

Woke culture has now ruined all of that. Yes the occasional person might get annoyed that they are being displayed as being thick etc but it’s a comedy and it’s meant to be played for laughs .

So you're only example is TV shows who have already ended? And which were gubbins anyway? And two stars are still highly paid and working? It's definitely worth getting bothered about

Talk to people on the street and ask them how concerned they are about addressing people by their correct ‘ pronouns’ . Most people over 40 will think you’ve just dropped in from another planet ,

I agree , it’s an issue that affects a tiny percentage of people and it’s been blown up into a big issue when in reality it isn’t . Get on with your life and don’t expect people to be bothered because most people simply aren’t , they have far more important things to be concerned about .

So no-one's actually been cancelled and your two examples of something being 'woke' is a TV show that hasn't aged well and could be perceived to be even a little bit on the racist side? Shows where the two main people behind them have come out and apologised for blackface sketches (although, in your view, maybe they are just pandering to please the 'PC snowflakes')?

And that's your evidence that society is well and truly RUINED?

Cool

"I'm fed up with you, you rancorous, coiffured old sow. Why don't you syringe the donuts out of your ears, and get some sense into the dormant organ you keep hidden in that rat's maze of yours?"

If the writing is still anywhere near that good then it'll be worthwhile.
Sadly, I very muich doubt it will be.

Well great, but this sort of situation doesn't feel like a fertile ground for great comedy to me. More like a thinly disguised, culture war style rant.

I think if it was about Basil, having given up on the hotel business, and just followed his life getting stressed with whoever in various situations, it might work better. The fact he's still has a hotel will make comparisons to the 70s show too easy to make, and would tarnish the memory more.
To succeed at any level, the programme will need a good supporting cast of misfits and comedy characters, which might become the sticking point.

This will not be any good at all. Cleese is well past his best and is now just a miserable old man stuck in the 70s.
