No mention yesterday from what I can see, but today is another "Demand Flexibility Service event" from 4:30 - 6:30pm whereby you will get paid for reducing electricity consumption compared to your average usage.

A message from Hugo Energy suggests the saving today is £5.46 per kWh saved. Given electricity is "only" 34p/kWh, give or take, that's quite a payback.

Bozza jnr will be delighted that I instruct him to "turn that bloody Xbox off" again today, and for an extra half hour too.

Anyone else partaking (or not partaking as they case is)?

Been doing it for a while now with Octopus, and earning 'Octo Points'. Haven't earned many - because we only use c3.5kWh in a day anyway. And we don't get that much back per kWh - £4 I think.

I've been doing these for a couple of weeks now with OVO Energy, but they only offer £3/KwH. I think we've had about 90p credit so far...

I was on 'economy 7' tarrif and, as there is a limit on charges, didn't bother checking my bills.
Heard about utility companies being able to charge what they like for split charges and saw I was on 49.43p kWh & 14.49p kWh night. Done some sums and seems I'm paying 10% over per bill. Could always change my lifestyle and get up at midnight I suppose.
If you're on Economy 7 worth checking your charges and doing some sums to see if you're on the best rates.

I believe all the ones before yesterday (we did a few with Loop Energy) were trial events to gather data on how many people would participate and how usage patterns changed.

Yesterday was the first *real* National Grid event.

Someone mentioned this in the pub last night but said the trial was in Scotland. Sounds like that isn't the case.

How does one sign up to this?

4:30-6:30 is prime pub time for me during the week.

It will generally be with your electricity supplier, so check their website out, but it's also been via the smart meter monitoring apps such as Loop and Hugo.

Loop - https://loop.homes/turn-down-and-save/
Hugo - https://hugoenergyapp.co.uk/#winter-cashback (turn it on in app settings)

I haven’t been invited by British Gas

Neverless our house is chaotic enough during 16:30 and 18:30 with two young kids, saving a couple of quid vs my sanity isn’t worth it!

Is anyone using Shell Energy and been invited / know how to opt in. The links from Google just take you to a page on the website that doesn't really help. The APP account section doesn't have an opt in nor does the my account section on the web login?

If you're already pubbing and not at home - you may not save much. They compare your usage during the specified hours to your average usage during those hours before. That is - tonight, they'll compare your usage to 4.30-6.00 over the last 10 weekday 4.30-6.00 periods.

Worth keeping an eye on what Octopus are paying. £4 today, but was only £3.37 yesterday (which was itself more than they were paying back in Dec during the trials).

Yep - sorry - typo as I was rushing to get out with the dog.

The different rates are interesting. As I posted above, Hugo are paying £5.46/kWh

Is that the payout from National Grid to the supplier, as presumably we don't get it direct from NG - and the supplier can choose how much to pass on?

I guess so.

And the relationship a consumer has with an app developer is different to that they have with an energy supplier as well.

We're with Ovo and have a 30-minute smart meter, so should be part of this scheme, but haven't heard anything from Ovo to say that we are.

Anyone else with Ovo know if its automatic?
