I love that the Tory narrative these days is that "grown ups are in the building" as if it washes their hands of the past 12 years. It doesn't.

I thought it was an excellent speech, unfortunately I don’t believe that the current Conservative policies can lead to anything more than a sort of poorly regulated “Wild West” where the consequences of misleading or mis-selling are almost non-existent and where public services continue to decline. Those that can afford to will use private sector alternatives, those that can’t will continue to suffer.

It’s what lots of us have voted for, I have to accept that, but it all seems so American and uncivilized.

I don't have an issue with people working hard and making money. That's the dream, isn't it? I do have an issue with billionaires hoarding wealth but that's a separate argument for a separate thread.

My issue is that, sometimes, the wealthy simply cannot understand the value of money. I'm not necessarily lumping Sunak in here before any knickers get twisted. But, hypothetically speaking, if a wealthy politician were to make a decision that takes £50 out of the pocket of everyone the value of that £50 is very different depending on the person.

For some it very literally is the difference between eating and not.

That's my concern towards the wealthy. The disconnect.

worth pointing out most (all?) billionaries have their wealth in assets, in property or usually companies. their wealth goes up and down with the stock markets.

the thing about people valuing money applies to someone earning 80k as 180k or 1m. they are insulated from a £50 spend eitherway. a lot of wealthy do look after the £ because thats how you do well in business. by relative standards all politicans are wealthy. they make spending and payment decisions on either the total budget (few hundred million for this small amount, a billion or two for that payment), or the political expediency (this months issue). politicans isnt few to none look at welfare payments in terms of actually addressing problems. otherwise they'd have a lot more targeted payments, non-payment provisions, like food parcels.

I agree re an election, but I’ll listen now seeing as he’s PM, like I listened to Truss. Everyone knew Truss was incompetent from the get-go. I’ll just be happy with a safe pair of hands until Labour take over, then take a fresh look at Sunak in opposition

Given that she was shortlisted by the Conservative MP's and then elected to the PM job by a significant majority of Conservative members, I would respectfully suggest that a significant number of people didn't know she was completely incompetent

Issues effecting the British economic situation ? Because the Government's own Office of Budget Responsibility has already said that the negative effect of Brexit on Britain's economy was twice that of Covid,

ie, they believe the two main issues negatively effecting the British Economy currently are Brexit/Russia

I heard Sunak's remarks about the challenges to the economy. He continued the Tory and media pretence that Brexit is not having the impact that every impartial observer has stated it to be having. How is any government going to tackle the issues if they will not admit that the issues exist? Would you trust an England manager who planned for a World Cup whilst failing to admit that Harry Maguire can't play football anym... Sorry, carry on.
