For me, I suppose, maybe Townshend and Daltrey - but like me, they've grown old. Their work is done, it's there for their legacy. I've heard it, loved it - still love it ................. occasionally these days. But then, I've grown used to rock stars dying - the 27 club and all that.
Lennon's death hit me like a rocket though. Had to call in sick - couldn't face work! My old boss - old in my view then, I'm older now than he was then! - understood and didn''t say a word, bless him!

I remember my Dad coming in my room and telling me. 'Who is John Lennon ? I asked'. I was 11, don't know if that's bad or not.
I'll be gutted if Alan Bennett went. My favourite author.
Henry Rollins. Would make me upset when he goes. But not distraught. I can't think I'd get DISTRAUGHT over anyone I don't know.
HR has lived his life to the full and one of the few that came out of punk with his head straight. His live shows with The Rollins Band were the best I have ever attended. His spoken word shows are also excellent. Documentaries, books, a radio show, photography, podcasts and acting (although, he's not a good actor), he has blazed a trail through life.

But these guys have hopefully got a few decades left yet.

Don't even. Its always the comedians that get me. Like you, the thought of no Rik still makes me really sad, I was also really gutted at Bill Hicks at just 32. Recently Iain Pattinson, TBT and Cryer going so close to each other, I can't listen to new ISIHACs anymore. No Humph, No Jeremy Hardy: the absences overwhelm the show for me now. Norm, Saget and Gilbert have all just gone within a year! None of them made seventy.
With Bob, I was a bit anxious reading his autobiography, just because of how his heart op put the thought of him going in my head. Stay off the pocket meat Robert.

I'm not sure I'd be distraught about anyone I don't know but there's a few I'll be sad about. From a purely selfish point of view if I outlive David Beckham that'll feel weird. He's only a handful of weeks younger than me, something I was somehow aware of very early in his career, and the vastly different trajectories of our lives hasn't lessened the sense from then that he is very much of my time, whatever that means.

There is no one, it is always sad when someone goes too young, Amy Winehouse for instance, but no sadder than an acquaintance. I surprised myself with the tinge of sadness I felt at the passing of Mikhail Gorbachev recently though.

Got me through some tough times has his books, just have given me feelings of comfort over the years and I will be devastated when he goes tbh. Yes I know that may be odd to some due to the horror/suspense content his novels have but even still, some good moral things within them also. Fortunate to meet him a few times as well, great guy.
A shout for Mel Brooks also. His comedic genius has always been a comfort thing for me as well.
