[Misc] Who on here has been to walk past the Queen's coffin?

I am frankly astounded that so many are waiting for hours to do it.

I think it's very moving but I do struggle with people taking kids of 2 or 3 years of age as "an experience" to remember all their lives

Anyway how many of you have been or are on your way?

Definitely not for me.

But I think there seems to be a kindred spirit among those who are. Lots of Royalists or people who had a connection somehow with the family. So people are making friends with other folk like them in the queue.

I'd queue for hours to watch a favourite band's last gig or the Albion in Europe and I know I'd be surrounded by people who'd also do the same, thus making the waiting part of the experience.

It reminds me a little bit of queueing at Wimbledon. There's a sense of shared purpose and community within the queue which is nice to see. Personally, I won't be going. But I have no issue with anyone choosing to pay their respects.

I get the fact that people want to see the coffin as a mark of respect, I’m fine with this. But what I don’t get is that many seem to be going there as an “experience” and/or “to be part of history.” This seems to be more about them than the Queen; and a bit mawkish and disrespectful. Each to their own I guess.

But no, I won’t be queuing.

BBC reporting 14 hour wait and they have now had to "pause the queue" and that nobody is being allowed to join it for 6 hours.

Each to their own, but not for me. Seems really very odd behaviour, to be honest, unless you actually KNEW the woman - and even then, I can't see how queuing overnight to spend 30 seconds close to her corpse would achieve any kind of comfort.

Granted, I am a bit of a prick - but I'd find it quite funny, if they announced that the Queen's body had been at Windsor all along, and people were queuing to pay their respects / gawp, at an empty box.

I did it on Wednesday. Started queuing at 3pm and was through by 7pm. It was quite an experience. Met some lovely people in the queue and we were in the Hall for changing of the guard, which was fascinating to see.

I queued as a kid for about 6 hours back in 1972 for the Tutankhamun exhibition where there was loads of seriously historic stuff to see, the only time it has ever left Egypt. I certainly wouldn't repeat that, so it's a no from me.

Surely Eddie would open the lid and say "Woah, I'm still Alive" if he had any sense of humour.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but I'd be more surprised if she was in it. For security as much as anything else.

Anyway, I queued 2 and a half hours at Disney and that was torture. 6 hours and you don't even get a rollercoaster is complete no thanks territory.
