He’s favourite now because Ed Aarons in The Guardian last night included him in his piece rounding up all the other suspects (doesn’t suggest anything other than “under consideration “) . Doesn’t take much to shift odds in next manager markets.

Don't believe that's the only reason

Strange that de zerbi has suddenly gone way out.

Yes, that's something that doesn't sit well with me either. Still, as we keep being reminded, "it's business", "people must be allowed to further their careers", "managers come and go and it's just the way it is" ... etc.

He sounds great and if he's considered the right man by our club hierarchy that's good enough for me. I wouldn't blame Lens fans for hating us though.
We have zero choice in the matter, this was forced on us.... so dont feel any guilt over this shitty scenario.

Exactly. De Zerbi is in the first paragraph of that article. He has dropped to 10/1 in some places.

I think there is some inside knowledge here. A lot of money must have gone on Haise yesterday/last night to shift him to favourite?

I don’t think it takes very much money to shift the odds in these type of markets, I’d guess a couple of hundred rather than thousands.

I think this is our man. Might need a translator for a while, Bielsa-at-Leeds style, but I'd imagine that he'll pick up enough English ove the next 6-12 months for this to not be an issue long term, unlike Bielsa who was such a genius that he still couldn't speak English after almost 4 seasons.

Interested and a little surprised. Frank Hayes may have scored a century on his Test debut but he’s 75 now and I’m not sure he’s the one!

I'm glad I wasn't the only one who immediately thought of him when his name was first mentioned

I thought Bielsa could speak perfectly good English, just chose not to

Seems very odd if that's the case and, I dunno, a bit disrespectful. I recognise that British tourists are probably the worst in the world for making minimal effort to speak the lingo when on holiday, but British players and managers tend to learn and at least make an effort even if they're not quite fluent. See Tomori for an example, and it's well worth watching videos of Shaun Edwards coaching the French rugby team with a broad Wigan accent.

It seems a real shame that, purely because Chelsea are twunts, we may now have to upset the applecart at a club abroad to bring in the right person. It would have been so much better for everyone for all this to take place in the summer when there's time for all concerned to adapt to the change in circumstances. I do wonder whether we'll actually end up with our 3rd or 4th choice because of the timing and clubs understandably playing hardball.

I was thinking that. I remember when Madejski was furious that West Ham could come in and take Pardew when he was under contract but then turned round and took Coppell from us without a second thought.

I worked in Greece for a couple of years you pick up common phrases and understanding fairly quickly so he probably was bluffing.

Bit of a difference. Like 100% of the people in Greece are good at English, the vast majority probably better than you, meaning there's no real need to learn a foreign language. Different for Bielsa as I imagine most people in England doesn't understand Spanish.

I don't think Bielsa talked "perfectly good English" as some say but I'm guessing he picked up some of the basics. Either way, don't really hold it against him - the ability to learn new languages goes downhill from your mid 20s and when you're in your 60s it is going to be very difficult to become fluent in a new language.
