[Football] It’s Only The Fans That Are Loyal

Over the last few turbulent days I would imagine most Albion fans have gone through the whole gamut of emotions - shock, disbelief, anger, betrayal, sadness and more. For me the whole episode is still raw. I have tried to put on my ‘let’s be realistic, these things happen’ face, the acceptance default mode, and it’s not working.

All I keep thinking about it is the euphoria of a week ago when we trounced Leicester 5-2, in the top four, and all the accolades that went with it - best run club in the Premier League, superb management and coaching, recruitment is amazing blah! blah! Then the bombshell.

I have now come to the conclusion, and to be honest it’s always been there, is that the only loyal people in football are us, the magnificent, hard done by, much maligned, disregarded fans. Everyone else moves on to pastures new, be it for the Judas thirty pieces of silver, a step up on the career ladder or a step down in football oblivion. They’ve moved on, we haven’t.

I am now hoping that my mood will change once Tony Bloom and Paul Barber have appointed a new coaching team and that some sense of normality returns to our wonderful club. Keep the faith and all that - up the Albion!

Have you only just realised that all the badge kissing in the world means nothing when push comes to shove...

Besides which, I am sure there are many second teamers among The Albion fans, some may even be Chelsea fans!

Absolutely, BUT, fans are only loyal to the club itself and show little loyalty to staff and players or even owners for that matter if expectations are not met. When players or managers go who are doing well we are up in arms at the betrayal, but managers and players sacked or we let go we're more than happy to wave them out of the door.

Look at the disquiet this summer at us not spending more. We're a demanding bunch at the end of the day.

"It’s Only The Fans That Are Loyal" - that is such a bloody obvious statement and doesn't even need saying. Let's start a thread "Everybody needs a shit every now and then".

Fans are loyal to their clubs.

To the players, owners and managers of the clubs? No chance. But still fans expect the players, owners and managers to be loyal to not only the club but also to them.

Managers come and go, as do players but I suppose the more romantic amongst us really believed Bruno was one of us.
That’s a hard lesson and one I never seem to learn.

Players, Managers, Coaches, Support Staff etc = Employment and a job (in some cases a very well paid job) - No loyalty to the employer if someone wants to offer more money

Fans = Lumbered..........a vocation!!

Yep. To resurrect my Auberon Waugh quote and re-engineer it, we are pissed off because we just had our candy snatched, whereas all the other b'stards are laughing at us because we've just had our candy snatched.

I am still managing, myself, to avoid all that, by being implacably Not Bovvered. I will keep my emotional gunpowder dry till after the new appointment has bedded in.

:whistle::drool:

:rolleyes:

Better to be an old romantic than a sneery cynic.

It's a blindingly obvious statement and has been true for many years, maybe always. Give grateful thanks that Tony Bloom is a Brighton fan first and a very rich businessman second
Very disappointed with Judas Saltor but I'm trying to move on in the hope of doing the double over Chelsea and finishing above them this season.
