Good game. Agree although we had better chances Newcastle shaded first half when we were poor. Very good after break and should have had 2/3. No weight behind any of the goal efforts saved or Lalanas header. On basis if Gross had a left foot it was a very easy chance so a terrible miss. Lucky in first half with space given to them on right. Was missing Cucurella there because Trossard is no defender. I would not make a manager because couldnt understand why Howe didnt put his tricky winger on that side to attack this weakness, We know Burns strengths and it certainly not at LB. Again surprised Lampty didnt come on earlier to take him on.

Brentford could only do that to Man Utd because we broke them.

LAst season they were the subbuteo team no one wanted with triple glued snapped ankles . . . We snapped fresh legs at the knees in May. A new manager isn't going to fix the knackers yard of players they have in a hurry. So you do have a point, a most valid one.

I was there and I've just watched the highlights. Isn't that handball by Dan Burn just before the second clearance off the line?

I was looking from north middle - I'm telling you now the west lower, west upper and east upper were mostly full, as was east lower towards away fans. East lower towards North loads of empty seats

Generally.

Spot on.

De Gea certainly looked today like 'a goalkeeper with no arms'. When it came to half time they were losing 4-0. It won't be long before their travelling army of synthetic supporters will be taken away from them and thrown in the bin.

I saw it completely differently.
I thought everyone, except Lallana, was a little off but the team collectively were good.

A lot of missed passes and tackles - obviously shooting too, but we're used to that.
Really thought Dunk had a tremendous game, didn't put a foot wrong and driving the team from the back.

I'm not so sure, we had at least a couple of goal line clearances, their GK made some excellent saves, sometimes it doesn't go your way. I would say though that if Lallana can shoot towards the goal, but away from the GK, that would be helpful.
Watching the highlights I do think it’s a quality issue, March’s second half chance Pope is on the left hand post he shots straight at Pope 99% of the goal is empty. First half chance is more of keeper error than a good shot, hit with pace it goes in.

It's odd because I nearly agree, and all the caveats would suggest I do agree, but I never felt he bested Wilson.
Now sure a fully fit CW is a seriously feckin slippery fish and it was brutally hot and Webster didn't have his best game, but at no point did I have any 'all.day long' thoughts.
For me Dunk most definitely didn't unpack Wilson from his pocket, like he has done with so many other centre forwards.

But Webster Dunk and Veltman combined were more than a match.

Caicedo and especially Jocko's passing was off and individually that could have been a problem but combined ...

Which is kind of how I saw the whole game.

Again we were the better team, only this time individually not so good - but then again it was brutally hot...

I had a great day and evening out, shame the ball didn't go fully over the line.
The Amex looks even better from the inside.
Beer and pie was good too.
Good experience all up.

Anyone know what happened in the away end yesterday down the front, looked like a medical situation but the game didn’t stop?

Glad you enjoyed it!
What did you think of the atmosphere? Personally I thought very muted which is disappointing considering first home game of the season at 3pm and after the high of last week at OT.

It's so frustrating that our away support is so good, but at home the North is so spread out in terms of groups of singers.

2) Cashless is a total PITA for me personally. The Boy at 15 is too young for booze and a regular bank account but too old to hang around outside the ground with old fogeys in a beer queue. Therefore no way for me to get him bottled drink and hot dog until I got in the ground. !

I’ve done this..Why don’t you just lend him your debit card for 30 mins ? - then he can go in early without you (You can spend outside on your phone I guess or get mates to stump up)

I’ve had similar probs in past waiting for all my sons to arrive at same time .

Sorry if that’s the obvious and there’s a reason why not (risk getting card lost / suspended ? )

Brentford beat them 4-0 at home. Fair enough.

We beat them 1-2 away, and with some different but perfectly sensible refereeing it could have been 0-5 quite easily.

And maybe the fact that we took them to the cleaners last week softened them up for Brentford today.

As I said on another thread, we beat them 4-0 at home too. Beating them at Old Trafford is different.

Absolutely! Been there, done that, got the t-shirt!

The away win was all the sweeter as well because it was new season, new manager, new spirit of optimism shattered by little old Brighton over 90 minutes…… probably within 40 minutes.

Don’t know but re: the game not stopping, that’s the instruction this season. Rightly in my view. Until the last couple of years, people have been collapsing in the crowd forever without the match being interrupted. The game continuing is not going to affect the medical care the person receives.

Extended highlights are up on t'inernet.

Commentor - 'Clean tackle on Wilson from Veltman'.
Cameraman - Wilson rolling around holding his ankle.

Yep that's as clean as you're gonna get.

I thought the referee handled it sensibly by allowing play to continue. The Newcastle players knew no more than anyone else yet were demanding for the game to be stopped. Random Toon fans were frantically waving for help. Stewards seemed a bit slow to react but things seemed to calm down after a few minutes.

I suspect someone had fainted in the heat but that’s only a guess. Not sure what stopping the match would’ve gained.

Hope the Toon fan is ok.

Anyone else see Macs challenge toward the end that looked two footed to me. He went down himself with an injury and the game carried in but I thought he was lucky not to get a second yellow.
