[Football] The Non-League Football Thread- 2021/22 Edition

Saw Hastings United go 10 points clear in Isthmian SE division with a comfortable 3 nil victory over Corinthian at the Pilot Field .
All 3 goals scored by ex Albion Trainee Ben Pope , attendance 1329 .

Me too and I managed to snap Pope getting his hat-trick there today as well. 20th of the season for him.

The only issue I can see there is where would Worthing move to, within the Borough?

Some years ago there was talk of moving to a site in East Worthing, I think close to Worthing Recycling Centre (and a certain pie maker). However I believe the directors have changed since then.

Also going today. Will be arriving in Lewes around 12 to allow for a bit of drinking. 3000 is the capacity so should be a great atmosphere.

All the drinking was taking place in the Brewers /volunteer

Some years ago there was talk of moving to a site in East Worthing, I think close to Worthing Recycling Centre (and a certain pie maker). However I believe the directors have changed since then.

There is a former dump site at Decoy Road, which would be big enough, but I think there were issues over building on alleged contaminated land.

The Vase would be very nice, but let's be honest here, wouldn't promotion to the Isthmian ranks be even sweeter?

Mustn't get too greedy now!

It can be bitter/sweet though, some of the requirements re:seats/retractable tunnel/floodlight standards etc can prove unviable to some. After 3 seasons, relegation was a blessing for us, staying up might have finished us off. (Good luck to any team that makes the step, I’m just saying it’s not all Champagne and Skittles)

The people in charge of the club have got enough experience to know what needs to be done, so I guess you have to trust in their confidence.

The people in charge of the club have got enough experience to know what needs to be done, so I guess you have to trust in their confidence.

Good luck, yes the opportunity must be taken. We were quite happy spending money we didn’t have winning the SSC and the Ryman League, however it came back to bite us on the arse. We’re fan owned now, debt free and happy in the County League.

great day out at Lewes yesterday. Great pubs before the game (obviously) and a good game and atmosphere. The Pan really is a tremendous venue

Also quite liked that there ended up being unofficial segregation, with the Worthing fans up one end for the whole game (I was actually in with the Lewes fans), gave it a bit of a big game feel

Good to see Worthing Hastings etc doing so well. To rise to National League and above is it not as with all football that you then pay players stupid money in relation to gate income and thats where problems start. Few years ago Whitehawk were one away from National League, paid ridiculous money to achieve this and downhill ever since.

We had a short dalliance with the Ryman League back in the mid/late noughties after winning promotion from the County League, lasted for about five seasons.

It cost us money, our attendances are historically low, as we have another better supported side in town. No regrets though. For my money without the prospect of promotion it tgakes the edge out of both playing and watching football at any level. As said on another thread, we all need to dream.

A few new grounds this week, seeing Spurs v Tottenham's game tonight courtesy of a spare ticket, got Leatherhead v Lewes on Tuesday night, before Sporting Bengal United v St Margaretsbury on Wednesday, after my last visit was called off due to rain. On track for 173 games this season, taking into account that some get moved/cancelled.

Belated report on Saturday's big one:

Lewes Arms first up for a couple, then down to the Pan an hour early to soak up the atmosphere (and some Lakedown APAs). Just a superb couple of hours of football there, where we were beaten by the better team but could have sneaked an unlikely point. The Rebels are a seriously good team; excellent in possession, they can move the ball really well and have a great physicality about them. I genuinely with them well and will be returning to Woodside Rd, either with or without Lewes playing there.

Then onto the Elephant & Castle where it starts to go a bit hazy and then I don't remember getting home, but I managed to escape without a hangover. And my steak & ale pie with mash & mushy peas was absolutely out of this world.

Hoping for 3 points tomorrow at rock bottom Leatherhead.
