There is an emerging trend within the recruitment of new players at our club.

We are not a "buy him now, ready to play [Prem] for £30m+"
We are a find a youngster [under 20 y/o] that shows the promise to learn the "Brighton way" - long list emerging now - e.g. Sarimento, Caicedo, etc.
Then, either send out on loan to learn his trade or play in our u18 or u23.
Regularly reassess, and let them find their level, which is hoped will be the first team, but be prepared to give it time [one, two or three season].
If the lad then doesn't make the grade, will be moved out.

This looks a far better operating model then the recent past of "spend up to £20m but be prepared for a disappointment and negative return on investment" [Locadia, The Lion, etc.]

It's called controlled succession planning - I like it ...

Also I think they seek two other things, a high technical ability and the right attitude to learn and adapt.

The close control and passing round the corner and his movement reminds me a touch of Sterling.

Turned down a professional contract at West Ham, and went to Porto. Some other big clubs were sniffing around.

Emerging trend? Erm where have you been for the last few seasons?

More like a definite plan and program implemented several seasons ago that's brought us the likes of Ben White, Big Bob Sanchez etc... for relative peanuts in the football world.

That route happens quite a lot - i'm not sure on the technicalities but I think clubs can circumvent compensation/agent earns more if they leave the UK for a year and come back.

*Apologies - just seen this was mentioned earlier

Meanwhile, Everton takes on loan a £40 million, £100,00-a-week Manchester midfielder Donny van de Beek. Toffees pay half a million fee, and all of the salary.

"“Let me tell you about the very rich. They are different from you and me." F. Scott Fitzgerald -- to which it is claimed Hemingway replied. "Yeah. They have more f•cking money."

They aren't going to have a good time if they go down...that's for sure. Stranger things have happened.
