Contrary to popular opinion in the UK, black pudding is not some northern peculiarity but a popular food eaten all over Europe. If you can get hold of some "morcilla de Burgos" is particularly good (it contains a bit of rice, onion and spices as well) and is eaten all over Spain

Great shout…it’s incredible : Had it a few times in Madrid, even in the smart restaurants they serve it with fries and a fried egg for lunch. Fantastic

It's threads like this that keep me coming back to this place.

the best I've ever had was about 20 years ago from the greasy spoon cafe at the bottom of whitehawk that the police car crashed in to near Arundel Rd I think?

The bloke who sells the sausages at Southdown Garden centre (Knights of Ditching?) does a decent pre sliced vacuum pack of it but it doesn't meet the criteria of Brighton unless having a BN6 postcode can be classed as a tenuous link?

If you can cope with a trip north to Burgess Hill, Thornes butchers in the Martlets sell a really nice triangular black pudding which I believe is made somewhere locally - used to be able to get it in the Garlic Wood Farm butchers in Steyning before it closed.

I has nice chunks of hard fat in it which keeps it moist during cooking.

They are Albion fans in there in support fellow seagulls.

agree with all the posters, a nice runny egg yolk over. makes a fab sarnie in fresh thick sliced crusty bread ………

Anyone tried a “Manchester egg”? I’d like to give that a go. If the yolk is still warm and runny, that could be very nice indeed. Thoughts?

6AM cooked breakfast then11AM break you would get what hadn't been scoffed earlier.

If you were lucky there would be a black pudding roll...:thumbsup:

I've made them before with quail's eggs. Pretty damn good.

Ooh. I love a quail’s egg scotch egg. A member used to bring them into the Trades and Labour club in Brighton. The yolks still warm.

With a chicken’s egg I’d want a big mug of tea to wash that down with :)

A friend of mine goes over to Ireland regular and as well as the brilliant potatoes he brings us back white pudding. And very nice it is too. Though I prefer the texture of black pudding. My family are from Belfast so it’s a lovely reminder of childhood holidays back with the family and the Ulster Fry.
