Or put another way.
All the top EPL teams will lose most of their players on November 14th and get them back 10th to 20th December (when knocked out).
That also leaves 36 weeks of football but less FA Cup weekends, or has that been dropped in 2023?
Players could well be expected to play over 55 games (WC, EPL, FA Cup, ECL) in a season.

I do too, but this one can get stuffed.

I've thought that for a long time but there is a but...

If this goes ahead as planned with all the players going who you'd think would go, go, I just know I'll be "If you can't beat them" Then in Xmas party season, there will be wall to wall football on the telly and down the pub. I'd like to think that I will avoid it, won't watch it - given that the stadiums will have been built by actual slaves and all - but I just know that uncomfortable truth will be put to the back of my mind as I watch Norway draw 0-0 with Costa Rica in a meaningless Group D match.

It's the 'World' Cup. What god-given right do we have to play it in our summer every time? Are the Southern Hemisphere leagues usually disrupted for a June/July WC?

Brighton factually.....
Final on the 18th December, one country is going to have one hell of a Christmas.

Dreading fitters going missing during our busiest period on the run up to Christmas.
combined with Christmas parties, this is one big recipe for disaster in this country....

You could say that players play up to 55 games a season anyway in World Cup /Euro years ...just that the tournament football is at the end of a season . Not in the middle of it.

Not sure who this will be advantegous for.

Big teams are going to lose most of their players for a month, but smaller teams will have a lot of players go without competitive football for a month.

A part of me is thinking that the wall to wall drinking inside, which I usually do for the World cup is better suited to the winter months when there's nothing to do outside anyway

Yeah great, I bet you love the ESL as well. There's a reason world cups dont affect the southern hemisphere as much and that's tradition, something you don't appear to worry about.

I hope this world cup is a total disaster.

Some Southern Hemisphere leagues suffer disruption for a World Cup held in our summer, but where you consider at the last world cup nearly 75% of players came from UEFA affiliated clubs it's far more disruptive to hold it at any other time. The next highest federation by club affiliation was the Asian Football Confederation (which includes Australia) which made up just over 11% of the total players. Holding it in Qatar smacks of money and corruption and nothing else.

I'll more than likely just enjoy a month and a bit football free in the run up to Xmas next year. Might be able to get my shopping done earlier and attend a few more parties rather than missing them cause we are away to Leicester two weekends before the big day.

Presumably no international breaks in the lead up to it. I can but hope.

I believe the weekend of September 24th 2022 is designated an international break by FIFA, but there are no others listed because of the break required for the World Cup.

Why don’t they just have the World Cup every 2 years, can’t believe no one has suggested doing that?

Will the bottom 2 divisions carry on ? Could be good for them and non league?

I think the non-league thread will be getting a lot of traffic that month.
