Because he isn't what we are looking for at the moment. No amount of goals in Div 2 will show otherwise. It's a different level. Albion had him long enough.

If he has suddenly found a new level to his game then so be it. He clearly didn't show it under Albion's stewardship. Mitrović and Solanke are also scoring for fun at the moment.

Coventry City clearly have a bargain though.

He's going to be scoring against us next season  :dunce:

Not if he stays at Coventry..

...Oh FFS none of the funny jokes work, all the time we're 4th from top.

Stupid upside down league.

Yes, the 'Football League is upside down' song could take an odd twist now.

Go Gyo. Love to see Cov back in the PL. A grim but amazing city is Coventry. Also looking to build a new (non SISU Wasps) stadium at Warwick University.

Could see him in the next Swedish national team squad if Ibra & Isak are both injured.

Good to see him do well.

Hopefully a big sell on clause because he is off for millions in the summer if his form continues.
Fair play to him. Shows what being happy and a bit of confidence can do for a player.

Good luck to him, but doing it in the Championship doesn’t necessarily translate to doing it in the Premier League. Connolly would probably score a shed load at that level, and he’s 2 years younger.

Quite a few ostriches on here when it comes to this one. The Championship is an excellent level of football and not everyone can play in that league and score hatfuls of goals.

Let's be honest, if we knew he could score this freely, he'd be way ahead of Locadia on our bench and certainly challenging for a starting spot. We signed Maupay off the back of his performances in the Championship, I don't get why people are being so dismissive now.

If he carries on this form, they have had a fantastic bit of business and we've done poorly. That's okay, it happens - we can't win them all. But it's okay to admit and accept we made a poor decision which we believed to be right at the time. It's a bit pathetic to keep insisting it was a good bit of business to let him go when it clearly wasn't.

Also, all this talk of a sell-on clause. Is there actually any evidence/mention of this, or is it just a hopeful assumption that we've covered our backs in case he went nuclear? I mean, I've seen no mention from journos who covered the deal or from either club.

Has anyone ITK said there isn't a sell-on clause?
No.
Has anyone ITK said there is a sell-on clause?
No.
Is anyone ITK likely to say whether there is or not?
No.
Does anybody on here know whether there is or not?
No.
Does anybody seriously think that the Abion would have just given him away for a small fee without taking into account every possible situation or turn of events?
N ..................

Sorry, you'll have to work that one out for yourself.

He needed regular games to advance his game and great news he’s flying at the moment But the bottom line is He was not going to get the game time he needed to grow at the Albion
So we let him move on hopefully to reach his potential the recruitment team obviously saw in the beginning
It’s all part of the process Buy develop Sell on Evolve Repeat
Hopefully in an upward curve of direction for the club as a whole
Working OK at the mo imho

There are certain players in our first team squad who don’t appear to be getting the game time they really need to develop too...(beyond the cup last week).

Really a tricky balance for a player isn’t on loan.

He’d have been in a queue behind:

Maupay
Welbeck
Connolly
Sima
Sarmiento
Locadia
Ferguson
Tolaj
Khadra
Mitoma
Zeqiri

Etc.

We have plenty of available forward options or ones in development.

The club are after top 10 level strikers remember.

Not sure how you work that pecking order out if that is one. Early days yet but a good scoring rate so far, probably should have kept him on loan for another year as he is still young but I guess you cant keep everyone unless you are Chelsea wo have also made some startling mistakes in who they have released....

Yup. Since winning the Champions League last season and making a cracking start this season, life as a Chelsea fan has been tough. As Potter said at the forum, it takes years to see how a player develops to see if they were mistakes or just best for club and player at the time. Pragmatic soul our Graham:smile:

I think he was out of contract at the end of this season so keeping him and loaning him out wouldn't have benefited us if he'd already indicated to the club he wouldn't sign a new deal. Better to get a small amount for him now than lose him for free in the summer as he'd be 24 by the time his contract expired.
