Think it was a 1 year contract with an option for a second that he signed last year. The second year option was triggered, so this year isnt necessarily part of a new deal.

Oh ok, just wondered as Rio Ferdinando intimated that he was a free transfer this summer and that M Utd should've been all over him as a back up signing

And some people laughed when Welbz said he could "still breeze past players in this league".

We seem to have finally got that pacy, powerful striker that many fans have been demanding. Can he get us 15 goals though?

No most definitely and categorically not.

You've asked the wrong question:-

Big ask, but that's where the improvement has to come from.

Either way, I'll be booing him if he doesn't

20 wins would be ridiculous. Only the top 5 got that last year. Man Utd and WH both had 16.

20/21 only 4 teams managed it. 19/20 just 3.

A 20-win team is more fantastical than the elusive 20-goal striker.

Yeah I did check the table.

15 wins sounded too small.
17 wins too odd.
20 has a nice ring to it for a team that drew 15 (fifteen) games last season.

The real question with Danny is can we keep him fit.

He's looking muscular and obviously moving well, but that's no guarantee his injury problems are over.

He's at the right club. We've proved with Lamptey last year that we will rigorously manage minutes and there is a top sports science department and an ethos of looking after the player. 5 subs will help. It will also help that we've got plenty of cover in that position.

If we can keep him fit, he has every change of having a late career golden period with us

Welbeck has been fit and available for the equivalent of over half a season now since his surgery. There is every reason to be hopeful that the worst of his injury problems are behind him now, with mounting evidence that is the case.

Having had a limited game time thus far his body is like an old top of the range car with low mileage. He could easily have another 4 years at the top, if not more.

Doesn't matter. Even if he only gets 7 or 8, the fact he's up there doing what he does will mean we're getting more goals from elsewhere as we saw on Sunday.

Agreed. Like the old Heskey situation - couldn't care less how many he scores if having him in the team means the team scores more goals.

Article in The Times today suggesting that he could yet get an England recall. Not as improbable as it would have seemed 12 month ago.

Why have palace put in a bid?

Calm down you lot ! He plays 1 game, he doesn’t score and now he’s the best forward in the league and going to the World Cup ?!

Come back to this post in 20 games time and see.

Plus if we really want to be miserable like palace fans we can realise he'll be off to Newcastle next summer anyway.

He's played in 22 of our last 23 Premier League games, he was an unused sub in the game he didn't play in. During that run he's scored scored 5 goals and had 3 assists. That's more goals than either Christian Benteke or Jordan Ayew managed in the whole of last season. He also scored more over the whole season than Mateta did. So even half fit he's better than 3 of your strikers were last season.

You were still on your mums breast when I was watching the Albion in the 80’s son.
