An urban mystery unfurls as one man pieces together the surreal meaning of hundreds of cryptic tiled messages that have been appearing in city streets across the U.S. and South America.

Resurrect Dead: The Mystery of the Toynbee Tiles (2011) - IMDb

A very fun and intriguing mystery :clap2:

I also really like: Touching the Void (2003)

MV5BMjExMzQ1NzMxOV5BMl5BanBnXkFtZTcwOTcyMDUyMQ@@._V1._SY317_.jpg

The true story of two climbers and their perilous journey up the west face of Siula Grande in the Peruvian Andes in 1985.

Touching the Void (2003) - IMDb

A gripping story that had me absorbed throughout. :clap2:

I would highly recommend both of these as thoroughly enjoyable viewing.

Touching The Void is indeed very good. Probably a dramatisation more than a documentary but astonishing nevertheless.

If you can track down A Letter To Zachary I can recommend that. A documentary made as the events were unfolding and as a consequence utterly heartbreaking.

I do like the sound of the cryptic tiles though - very Dan Brown!

I will see if I can track down A Letter To Zachary, thanks.

Another great documentary filmed as events are happening is "The revolution will not be televised". It was filmed by some young Irish film makers who were making a documentary about Hugo Chavez, and inadvertently documented the attempted coup in Venezuela in 2002. Truly amazing if you haven't seen it.

Good man! I've just finished The Toynbee Tiles and really liked it - I hadn't heard of the them before so the premise was new to me. I didn't realise it was also unfolding as they were filming it all; I was drawn in, intrigued, impressed with their empathy and and sensitivity - very good recommendation.

Judging by the quality of other suggestions here, I suspect my bandwidth will be taking a beating for the next couple of days...

If you like Historical Documentaries. You would struggle to beat the The Death of Yugoslavia.

Not only is it a fantastic series but was used to indict War Criminals.
