I see that October 31st is rapidly approaching, am I the only person that finds this American 'tradition' annoying ? Some of the things that have got here from the US are good, other are not. I've realised that having moved recently I will no doubt get a visit or two. On the plus side there's not a lot of tricks to be played around here.

Anybody know where I can get a machine that sprays liquid Crystal Palace out of a letter box ?

For a bit of fun as my kids were excited, last year I spent the day creating marvellous scary pumpkins with scary faces and candles in, we put them outside the front door for decoration and to get in the spirit of it all. BIGGEST mistake EVER. I had 42 different groups/people knock on my door. I didn't realise that apparently it is an invitation for them to knock or something? This year i'm shutting the curtains and turning the lights off, f*** that...

I don't mind it in itself, but I hate the way it's eclipsed Bonfire Night and Penny For The Guy. My wife loves it though, she always does pumpkins and puts them on the wall and in the window. She says she does it 'for the kids' - but ours are now 24 and 18! What it means for us nowadays is that the neighbourhood youngsters come up to our door and this balding, paunchy old man gives them sweets. I'm surprised we haven't been prosecuted yet.

Totally agree - stupid idea promoted by greeting card companies. I didn't let my kids have any involvement in it, and I'm pleased to say that my duaghter has passed this "non activity" onto her kids.

I always put a simple note in the window "No Trick or Treats" and so far that has worked well.

In my own strange world
We do take part in the whole thing, decorating the house etc. and our kids do realy look forward to it,however,I do feel exploited by the commercialism and if we didn`t have children would have no part in it.

Absolutely ridiculous, an event that has been promoted by shops to increase their turnover and I would be more than happy to see it taken off of the calendar as an event to be celebrated.

It's up there with Valentines for pointless commercial gimmick days.

stupid american "tradition" (im not sure its even that old) which is tantamount to a protection racket.

The Championship.
I guess it's a little enjoyment for anybody under at least the ages of 9-10. My nephew is only 2 and we got him a little costume and skeleton basket thing to put the sweets in. I hate it myself and so would a lot of people but it's just a night for the little ones to enjoy themselves.
