More today at Westminster Bridge.

Let's wait until austerity REALLY kicks in, then it won't just be students and hard left on the streets. June 20th should be the big one, and first of many.

Looking forward to it are you?

Gonna be there are ya Staph? PLO flag in one hand, Socialist Worker in the other, telling the capitalist scum that their time has come, recording it all on your I-Pad and and berating the Nazi police force? All comfortable in the knowledge you can return to your warm, dry home in Sussex and download the radical footage via your 'talktalk' interweb and motivate the troops onwards? And then open your ready meal from M&S and watch the BBC news footage of the anti-anything brothers and sisters?

I can read Greek and Latin, and sweat copper pipe.
I have an (expired) sanitary tile layer's license.

I've taught the first, and done the second and third, for a living at different times in my life.

Whatever happened to the ideal of the Renaissance man?

are you feeling alright Rex?

I believe it was one of your queens -- no mean Greek and Latin scholar, either -- who said "If I were turned out of my realm in my petticoat, I would prosper anywhere in Christendom."

Everyone should be taught a trade as a young 'un.

agreed,I picked up the trowel when I was 22,quite a late starter,I was a decent hoddie and it was hard being out of my comfort zone
but so glad I did,it takes years to become an accomplished bricklayer,it's also a tough living, but very satisfying

Well being someone who is passionately anti-austerity, I think it's important that people protest non-violently against this government and completely support them in doing so. Might even pop along myself on June 20th.

Lets hope yor actions are as load as your words. Its important people make their feelings heard, its what democracy is all about. Just dont step over the line for your own sake as i suspect it will be heated

Hug a hoddie

My grandfather was a master mason, senior bod in his union local when he retired.
My dad -- now in his 80's -- still has his Da's tools, and until about ten years ago used them around his, and all of our properties.
He taught all us in turn, but i'm a complete butcher.

I can do a little cleaning-and-repointing, however, as needed.
What I know, I taught my son, who is a practicing architect.
I bet he orders brick whenever the client so much as suggests it.

Coming from a man who thinks cancer charity work is all just PC nonsense, it's hardly surprising you're so HUGELY patronising of others and their opinions when they differ to your own.
Nothing could make me want to support the protests more than this kind of arrogant sneering, so thanks, I'll be looking in to them a little.

A non-story really, more of a flash mob than a protest. June 20th is the big one however.

Although as the bleak realities of this government start to kick in, I predict the civil unrest will be at a level unprecedented for generations over the coming years.
Yes,the left hate democracy...so it's an excuse to cause a riot and loot shops and spread arson....still it's not your house being burnt down is it Musty?

Passionately anti-Austerity..can you explain...To me this means you want our country to spend more than we can afford (like Greece) and probably bankrupt ourselves....Is this how your household works ?

Mine runs on if we can`t afford it we can`t have it...

austerity is all well and good if it applies across all sections of society. You can bet your bottom dollar that the super rich are not having to tighten their belts. As an example of this sales of Superyachts have been rising steadily year on year not affected in the slightest by the GFC, recession or austerity.

What does this have to do with running the UK government budget is a sensible fashion?

Firstly, all, really?

Secondly, just in case you didn't realise, this place often works as a discussion forum, leading to differences of opinion. Just saying like. Well, the post you quoted has received 3 thumbs up against your 1 negative retort. Another example perhaps of democracy not being so happy with the oh so tiresome whinging continually coming from sections of the socialist losers at the election.

A good thing surely Superyacht at £12 million....£2 million VAT..+ keeping men in work...........Super Rich needed to , For example Man City Footballers are paid in excess of £5 million a year on average, total bill £180 million.

Each player will be contributing at least £2million a year to Government coffers....

Good example. Taxing footballers is a great start. Now all they need to do is successfully tax their cronies in big business and there is non need for austerity measures. Trouble is they only really like taxing working and middle class people.
