They point to Parliamentary rules which say the official Opposition must be "prepared to assume power."

they have a point up until there. Tory back benches have been the main opposition in the past 12 months, seeing off major policies that a newly elected government should have expected to get through.

The Scottish National Party will today ask to be declared the official Oppositon at Westminster.

They say their leader Angus Robertson enjoys more support than Jeremy Corbyn.

There are 56 SNP MPs - but only 40 Labour MPs have expressed support for Mr Corbyn.

They also say they are able to fill all the relevant shadow posts to the government, unlike Mr Corbyn.

This would be wonderful :lolol:

He's got to go.

Just far enough away from LDC
You have to question jc's pr team. Inviting the media in to a shadow cabinet meeting that has more empty chairs than places filled. He was clearly uneasy and it hadn't been thought through. Like the thick of it in reality

Thomas Piketty, one of the most influential left-wing economists of our time, resigns as a Labour adviser having “criticised Labour’s performance in the EU referendum".

I remember exactly this happening in 1993 in Canada where the Bloc Quebecois became the official opposition despite wanting the province of Quebec to break from rest of Canada. It's not as absurd as it sounds.

Pat Glass has resigned as Shadow Education Secretary after just 51 hours in the job.

was wondering how long that would take. its Thick Of It grade farce. though not completely unexpected. i recall in early days of Corbyn leadership there was stories that one of the Eagles couldnt get hold of Corbyn to discuss policy. this came up this week again, and i gather is a recurring issue. looks like Corbyn isnt equiped for the management aspect of leadership.

The action by Labour MPs is only about 6 months too late as it should have been done when he was elected as it was obvious that he was not electable and never going to win a general election.

Cameron does a Flashman again, he must have forgotten that it was his incompetence that lost the referendum not Jeremy Corbyn and he would have been sacked if he hadn't had run away first

You seem to have posted on the wrong thread. This one is about the Labour Party falling apart.

How much of the chaos in the Labour party is due to concerns at the potential fallout from the publication of the Chilcot Inquiry's report into the Iraq conflict, scheduled for publication next week, on Wed 6th July?

How is it even possible to be mauled by a lame duck?

If you're talking about PMQs I'd say it's very easy for an outgoing PM, who resigned on the back of losing a referendum he thought he couldn't lose that would possibly shut half of his party up for a bit, to take swipes at the opposition leader knowing that none of what he says or does will affect anyting anymore.
