The BBC/MET office have got the short term forcasts spot on, they both predict temps close to 0 for the rest of the week. After tonight looks like any precipitation will fall as snow - so don't give up yet.

Snowed solidly for about 3 hrs from just after 10.00am in Leeds this morning. Good covering after the intermittent snow last night. Melting pretty quick already though, so can't imagine its going to affect getting home this evening.

Yep. The met office and you were correct .... 5.5c in central hove. With rounding, we'll give them the difference.


Another knock to metcheck, the Daily Express, and other bullshitters masquerading as 'scientists' and selling their 'professional' forecasts to farmers and the like.

And that's the problem. Most normal people (i.e. those that don't obsess abouth the weather) get their forecasts from (in descending order of accuracy)

BBC News 8/10
BBC 5 day forecast - 6/10
Metro - 6/10
Daybreak - 5/10
Sun - 4/10
Daily Express - Minus 273 / 10

The media, even much of the TV channels have dumbed down their forecasts to the point where they are meaningless other than showing general trends; and of course the Daily Express are serial bullsh*tters, and whip up such unrealistic frenzy.

I included Daybreak because I was having a chat with a friend the other day, and I was talking about the likelihood of some colder weather, and she already knew all about it, as they'd mentioned it on Daybreak, and apparently we were going to get "loads of snow".

@esccroads: we've just received the latest forecast from @metoffice. Road temps are due to fall to -3 overnight with snow falling from midnight to 6am.

@esccroads: The snow fall is likely to start in the east of the county and we expecting up to 5cm / 2 inches overnight.

The current output seems to have toned down the intensity of the showers into the SE, and although GFS does have some snow into the far SE early Wed morning it's not very extensive. Once the 12Z runs have all come out the Met Office will issue updated Fax Charts, which are about as close to the true outcome as you'll get at his range.
