Just a thought, but could there be a waiting game being played here with Stockdale, from both sides.
The club. Make him an offer, but it's not what he wants, maybe money, maybe length of contract, because they want to see what shape he comes back from his summer holidays in. He's always been prone to being a little chunky, and could there be a better deal waiting for him if he returns to the 1st day of pre-season training under a certain weight.
The player. Makes all the subtle "farewell" gestures at games and on social in the hope that it brings about some pressure on the club to re-sign him on the deal he wants, without any silly weight clauses.
It's not complete make believe as I have heard that the club have taken issue with his weight at times, and he doesn't take very kindly to it. Is that what is playing out here?

Unless he's already agreed a new deal that's not been reported as yet.
Good to see the FA have updated their contract signature lists, as they'd not done it since March.
We now have April and May, but not any of June so the above can't be checked.
2 days until his contract lapses.

According to the Argus the deal has been agreed and he will sign it soon. Players report back for pre season tests today so I'm hopeful we will hear something by the weekend.
If it's agreed there is no reason why it can't be signed as soon as he gets in...
