The day 1066 is entrusted with the defence of this country is the day I emigrate, preferably to somewhere safer like say, Afghanistan.

I grew up around the RAF. My dad and my stepdad, my grandad, cousins and my granny (WRAF) were all raffies. As a child I lived in Mareham, Wildenrath, Lossiemouth, Coningsby and Sleaford (near to Cranwell), and I was born in Ely. Classic RAF upbringing.

I never even contemplated going in.

'Nuff said.

Not the RAF, but I did try, and fail on eyesight grounds, the medical for the Irish Air Corps cadets. I have no idea why, it just seemed like a damn good idea at the time. Being stuffed into a 1950's Savoia-Marchetti, or maybe working my way up to air traffic control or flying the government Gulfstreams or LearJets, fun fun fun :shootself

i was in the ATC (air training corps) for a few years, was pretty good, done some shooting and a lot of flying, aerobatics are a right laugh!!! never really wanted to join RAF though, didnt think flying would be as fun when you're being shot at!

Sorry to dissapoint you, but you can get shot at whilst flying.:p

Even a AK-47 could do some serious damage to a fighter jet.....

Can you not read? He said he didn't think flying would be fun whilst being shot at, and he's probably right.

You would have to be a VERY good shot to hit a fighter jet with an AK.

Or very lucky, but you are right, one lucky shot could take down a jet.
