Quite funny that this story comes out the week after the two clubs leading this initiative got royally pummelled by 'lesser' teams in the same division. But sure, they deserve to have full control over the league...

I'm falling out of love pretty quickly with PL football. I'm finding I don't really miss it and – even though I'm still paying for our season tickets – I'm seriously contemplating whether it's worth carrying on with them.

In what way are the other PL clubs being "bailed out?" They stand to lose influence on decisions have a greater chance of relegation and never being able to say do a city by finding rich new owners. It is the 1st stage to turning the PL into a closed shop and I hope other clubs see through it.

Until this I have never agreed with the Tory Govt on anything but this time the DCMS spokesperson got it exactly right.

My understanding was that they are trying to blackmail smaller (non premier league) clubs to vote for this? Did I get that wrong?

If this involves a league re-structure - 90 teams, change to playoffs, 3 24 team divisions etc..

Wouldn't all 92 clubs get a vote? If so there is a chance with a big enough bribe it might get through.

As far as I know there is no legal structure of 92 clubs. The PL is completely independent and only PL clubs have a vote on its issues/structure. There is simply no forum in which all 92 clubs would vote on anything.

I notice in all this proposed change there is one glaring omission ....... not once do they refer to the clubs fans , nothing but business proposals ..... whatever happened to the saying " the game is nothing without the fans " yet they ignore them completely expecting them to back & pay for whatever is decided ..... I suspect revolution will be nearer what happens not an evolution

fans should vote with their feet and not back any club that votes for this by withholding their money and hurting them in the pocket which is all they care about

I think the past few months have proven that football is still very much alive, even without fans. I would imagine some clubs would see it as a big positive to not have fans (with the associated costs involved) in the stadium, as long as they get enough mugs to pay for it via subscription deals. The number of people physically in the stadium is dwarfed by those watching it on TVs around the world, so I'm sure they won't have too much of an issue.

Like the Elite Player Performance Plan, this is the wealthiest clubs holding a gun to smaller clubs' heads and saying 'support this crap and manifestly unfair system we're proposing in exchange for a pittance, or oppose it and get nothing at all'.

If any good comes out of it, it will be that it forces the Premier League to come up with a better rescue plan for the Football League rather than have this happen..

More seriously I wonder how dyche views it with the richest clubs trying to get richer rather than supporting smaller prem sides. He seemed all for clubs getting what they deserve the other week.

I cant help with the Covid shit, but I binned off my season ticket (20+ years a ST holder and saw my first game in 1972) and started following my local Ishmian league side. Bought a season ticket for £150 and so far this season have watched every game home and away, and a I have found my mojo for football again, infact after saturdays game all I can think of is Tuesdays game...I fxxxking love it!!

maybe he should look at championship clubs spending way beyond their means before putting out the begging bowls and selling his soul

bit more to it than simple cash injection now, there's ongoing distribution of a chunk (8.5% i think) of all PL revenue going down the leagues. thats really what its about, a proposal from Football League to gain from Premier League money.
