So the powers that be have decided that pitch invaders will now get an automatic ban from their club and the default position will be to prosecute!

I'm not a great fan of the pitch invasions but understand why in they happen when people are caught up in the moment. However, a few morons meant this was inevitable.

Fair enough for pitch invasions and for flares, but personally I like the drama of smoke bombs and don't see the harm in them...

So how long will the ban be?

Surely also impossible to identify if it's thousands of fans. Easy enough if it's one or two and I suppose the stricter penalties if enforced will act as a deterrent

But fair enough to clamp down on this and i'm sure the club will issue a statement. The amount of coke fuelled entitlement to go where they please was getting ridiculous at the end of last season.

For those of us with asthma, and I'd imagine others with different respiratory conditions, the experience of smoke bombs isn't great (and obviously can be quite dangerous to us).

True, I don’t have breathing problems but even being centre WSL didn’t stop the acrid unpleasant atmosphere from flares let off in the South stand being pretty unpleasant

We had one in the stand away at Wolves, it was pretty unpleasant. Several people had to move away.

What "drama"? The drama of identifying the moron who let it off in order to punish them? It's already been stated that they do cause harm to anyone with asthma or other respiratory conditions.

Guarantee there will be at least 2 smoke bombs when/if we score at Old Trafford.

Hopefully anyone who sets them off will be identified, caught and prosecuted accordingly. There is no place for them at all.

Still in Brighton
They'll be plenty of smoke bombs and flares this season as younger fans identify more with the "ultras" they see abroad and it's the thing, momkey see monkey do. I'm indifferent in some ways and then I also feel why should some people with breathing issues be put at risk? I'm not a great fan of some of modern over emphasis on H&S but this is one scenario where they ought to apply. Besides, I think flares and smokes bombs look pretty naff!

There was an increasing trend for kids to run on. Hope it includes them, and their parents/person who almost certainly encouraged them.

There`s a time when pitch invasion is ok surely ?? Team won promotion last game of season or stayed up last game of season ?? Lifetime ban seems ott to me !! Couple of years ago we all invaded pitch. Should we all be banned ??

You mean they might have to actually check the Palace fans when they turn up this time?

No, we didn't. There were loads still in the stands and it was easier to watch the players, Tony Bloom etc from higher up than on the pitch.

Put it into perspective old chap! A celebratory proclamation of a once in a lifetime promotion is totally different to some knob running onto to the pitch to either antagonise opposition fans or lump an opposing player or being a complete ‘look at me tw*t’. Any of those committed and he deserves everything that comes to him.

The jump from the west upper put me off!

Pitch invasions for celebratory reasons seem to have mainly been considered to be ok in the past. And then a few idiots started punching and pushing players etc in the invasions at the end of last season. So now the authorities are taking measures against them. It's a shame but there were enough problems at the end of last season that something does need to be done.

The photo does appear to suggest there are more on the pitch than in the stands :)

Be warned. 4 Nottingham Forest fans at the FA Youth Cup at the end of last season let of smoke bombs. It took about 10 mins to identify their seat number, escort them from the ground and into the hands of the police waiting outside. Police prosecuted (largely at the request of the club) and 3 out of the 4 received long football banning orders. They weren't hooligans, they were an otherwise law abiding family group.

It's not worth the risk.
