[Football] Pitch invaders - you have been warned!

Even then I was slightly worried when sons were in the first tranche that went on pitch. I did also but only when several thousand were !!

I`m on the fence re lifetime Bans for people !! The club sells alchohol ....I`d bet most if not all individual pitch invaders are drunk.. Bunch of mates on a stag do get pissed up challenge one to streak across pitch. Lifetime ban for one silly moment ??

Has it been stipulated that these bans are lifetime? I understand that for very serious offences that that will apply but for minor ‘I’m a knobhead running onto the pitch to show off to my mates’ would be for a limited period. Either way - just don’t do it.

Be warned. 4 Nottingham Forest fans at the FA Youth Cup at the end of last season let of smoke bombs. It took about 10 mins to identify their seat number, escort them from the ground and into the hands of the police waiting outside. Police prosecuted (largely at the request of the club) and 3 out of the 4 received long football banning orders. They weren't hooligans, they were an otherwise law abiding family group.

It's not worth the risk.

As long as they identify the correct person. At Arsenal last season they escorted out of the stand completely the wrong person, a youngster with crutches if my memory serves me correctly. I think he came back again, can't remember for sure.

reminds me of that day the tannoy guy at withdean had a mental breakdown screeching to everyone to get off the pitch.

V Man City maybe

It was when we beat Carlisle and knew we were going to get promoted. The players couldn’t come out until the pitch was cleared. Then he said the players weren’t coming out so fans started going home, and then the players did come out. It was a mess.

We won the title the following week at Walsall.

In many ways it's a shame. Been on the pitch a fair few times myself - but only after match was finished. Homw to Rochdale in '72, and most recently Walsall in 2017. Both joyous occasions, and harmless, and of course I used to regularly walk across the pitch at the Goldstone from the west stand to the gate in the south east corner that was nearest for the station. Shouldn't view the past entirely with rose-coloured specs though - not all old-time pitch invasions were benign; think Scotland at Wembley in '67.
Personally I'm more concerned about flares and smoke bombs - anybody chucking those around should be banned - and prosecuted - and CCTV should be able to identify them. Ideally I'd prefer it if CCTV was used to identify the cretinous thugs who treat an otherwise peaceful and harmless pitch invasion as an opportunity for pointess violence - but maybe that's too much hard work for the authorities. Easier just to pick out a few easy targets just for being there.

Dagenham, I think.

Knew a few fans who left with their kids, who were then really gutted to hear that the players had come back out and they'd missed it.

Smoke bomb... if it was a flare you would have gone to casualty

Considering many “lads” smuggle in both you’re not exactly putting the case for the defence.

What’s wrong with a good, old fashioned bog roll? :moo:

What year are you both talking about (and is it the same one)? :)

Edit: looked it up - presumably 2011. Dagenham then Walsall.

I'm a fan of a good old fashioned bog roll chuck but they had to be the grease-proof paper variety (which you don't get anymore) to fly properly. But bus ticket rolls were the best . Anyway, I know it wasn't a flare because I was there and saw our lot lob some smoke bombs (pretty harmless) as opposed to flares (pretty dangerous)

I'm not a fan of either but I honestly can recall when a flare was let off at an Albion away game!

Individuals who carry or use pyrotechnics or smoke bombs will also be banned and identified offenders will be reported to the police.

The Football Association will also implement tougher sanctions for clubs.

With aa smoke bomb set off after Liverpool's (first?) goal v Man City in the charity shield, will we see action taken to set an example, or will there be leniancy because it's a new law, so we'll let these ones off with a warning?
