Littlehampton parkrun: 22.20 on a fast course in perfect conditions (= not good). AG 74.40% gave me 8th best out of 174. Really friendly event - recommended.

You're sitting pretty in second, I've just realised I'm running out of time!
Two efforts at Hove Park on 14th and 21st where it will be hard to get the 20:48 (77.11%) I require. I generally add 15 seconds there to a flat course. Unless it's a favourable SSW.
Then I have to hope for perfect conditions somewhere on the 28th, hope the legs and lungs are up to it and cross my fingers that you don't take advantage of a birthday.
May the best old git win.........

I think you can discount the possibility of me beating my SB, birthday or no birthday. I'm way off the pace right now. It'll all come down to you on the 28th. If you do a coastal course just hope that the wind isn't like it is today: brutal along the prom and giving me a PW for my 6 mile run.
Even if you don't pip me this season, I'm pretty sure it's on a plate for you in 2020...………….

Took over 7 minutes off my half-marathon best today.

Previous best (July 2015) - 1:53:51
Today: 1:46:31

A disappointing run nonetheless. My aim was to hold 8 min/mile pace for the duration to come in just under 1:45. However, pretty early on, I doubted my ability to do that - I just felt I was working too hard at what has been an easy pace for me of late.

I got to 10 miles averaging 7:57 but I was running on empty from there and the last three-and-a-bit miles were a lot slower.

Leaves me the same target for next time, I guess...

Saw that on Strava. Very decent effort. Again, I know you don't do races but you'd probably take 3 or 4 mins off that in an organised race on a flat course.

Back to back sessions again for me this weekend. 6 miles between easy, aerobic and steady yesterday. Just over 10 miles today as a progression run, partly on effort given the wind. Now for beer and pie :drink:

Seemed like we had the best of the conditions at the Mince Pie today. Clear blue sky, nice temperature but a little windy.

Great to travel up on the NSC team coach this morning with Simgull and knocky1

Pleased with my time of 1:07:07 but even more pleased with 9th place and an age category win too. Who knew hitting 40 would be so great.

Whilst I continue to praise myself I must also add I was the quickest man over the final 600 metres (according to Strava) as I went from 12th position to 9th. Whilst having a turn off pace like Billy Paynter on the football pitch I seem to find something from somewhere on a final straight.

I’m not having any of this defeatist crap, you’re running at near 75% in winter conditions. Sit back and rebuild for a few months.

Had a good run at the Mince Pie 10m today. 2” off my target in 10:20:28 and well behind top 10 finisher Big Nuts and In form Simgull was also well out of my sight. Paced well on the day and overtook 10 runners and a reindeer in the final half mile. Wearing 5k race shoes was good for the run in on pavements but slippery on the mud. Great morning fun.

Great running from the big man. I finished second in old **** class and that’s not good enough.

Great running and I see you got a 2nd overall for one segment? Congrats.

I ran around in circles in Goodwood for 26.7 miles. It was... an experience!

Did they have the Mariachi band and confusing distance signage?

Pretty happy with Mince Pie performance of 1:16:48. Fell once in the mud and lost a bit of confidence on that stretch despite having trail shoes on. Kept it going though and ran 1.5 mins quicker than last year when I think conditions were better? Was also hampered with having late nights most of the week in the build up to Christmas.
Pretty tired afterwards and nearly fell asleep on the train to Falmer - would have woken up in Eastbourne if I had I’m sure!

Well done big nuts - outstanding performance!

Ran my first ever Cross Country race today at Mallory Park race circuit. According to my fellow club members it was a brutal course which made me feel better as it felt brutal to me! Came 8th out of the 16 men in my club which meant I picked up the last qualifying time for our league entry so was over the moon. Thanks to all who recommended the Soloman Speedcross 4 trail shoes, much needed today in ankle deep mud!

Looks good and good to get a qualifying time. I finished last club male yesterday for the second week running.

Just the one man with a steel drum yesterday and yes, mile markers all over the place!

Great performances all round - I was clearly at the back of the NSC pack having struggled with stomach cramps on the horrible hill in Saltdean, and coming in several minutes behind knocky1, giving me a less than impressive 5th in the old git VM60+ category. Enjoyed the run though, a good mix of wind, mud, sun and on/off road sections.

A little race report from yesterday, to expand on my comment before about Goodwood.

I've never done a track marathon or laps like that and it's a bit of a test of mental toughness as well as physical. You're completely exposed to the elements and most of the way around seemed to have a head or sidewind (I think up to 22mph at times). It was 11 laps of a c.2 mile circuit with 'XX miles to go' markers for every mile, spread around the circuit. Without a watch, I would've been screwed as I completely lost count of how many I'd done after a few goes.

The positives: enthusiastic marshals; flapjack (lifesaver) at the water station and the dude on the steel band. These three things gave me a bit of a lift on each lap. Got a t-shirt and a nice bit of bling too.

The not-so-positives: repetition; long sections of nothing but tarmac and grass (think BM's 'Road to Hell' when it first started); not much elevation and everything (supporters, water station, steel drum man) in the start/finish straight.

What was also a bit odd –*to me, at least – was the amount of races going on. We kicked off first at 9am, then were later joined by a 20-mile gang, then the HM lot, then a 10k race and finally a 5k. That meant we were on our own for about 40 minutes and then a bit later the place was relatively busy, normally faster people just trying to get past you. And then they'd all gone and the field was sparse again! I can see why they do it, but it was just a bit weird at the time...

I knew deep down I wasn't going to get sub-4, so then it was all about trying to get close to the Phoenix marathon last month. In the end, 4:23 was pretty respectable (I passed 26.2 in 4:20, I think), which is what I'd targeted after about 20 miles. I'd still like a decent winter of training to get the elusive sub-4 again, but I'm not fussed if it doesn't happen. I also think that my road marathons might be few and far between from now on. On the drive home I passed through Arundel and looked on at the riverbank where Mouth 2 Mouth runners were running and kinda wished I was there instead.

Splits are here and it's easy to see where it fell apart
