Bloody Worthing!
08:49am on Saturday, 16 May 2020 Simgull ran......
6:46, 6:52 and 6:48 with a fast last 0.1 of a mile.
I'll be happy with that next week.

Do or die time. Adrenaline time!
I'll probably be injured or sick anyway.....................

Looking forward to hearing the outcome...……………..

As I've done the 3 lockdown challenges (yes, I know one what wind-assisted and that I'm a W), I'm giving the body a chance to recover and not doing a lot of running - maybe once or twice a week.

I have, though, acquired a Concept 2 rowing machine. On their forum (which is badly in need of a Rowing Gaffer) people display their stats. Some of them are also runners and they all seem to row (2k and upwards) faster than they run. I'm the opposite and my ambition is to get my 5K rowing time to around my 5K running time. This should be a piece of p*ss and easily achieved by getting slower and slower at running. I reckon they'll both be around 25 mins soon.

Rowing indoors is a joyless torture.

Back in Sussex
I ran my longest ever run today, setting off at 3am as leg 1 of the LockdownLeg 100-mile relay.

16.7 miles @ 8:20 pace, which was bang on my goal time, although I was secretly hoping I'd be closer to an 8 minute mile average, but my legs felt pretty tired from the off, so I didn't push it.

Couldn't believe my (bad) luck on was was a rare foray to the seafront to find quite a stiff Easterly blowing in my face. I had been looking forward to a steady shift all the way from Ferring to Brooklands with the wind at my back, but it was the absolute opposite of that.

I couldn't imagine doing another 10 miles, so my respect for marathon runners has gone up a few notches!

Can I put in a claim for a result to go into the virtual 5k table?
5k today (on streak day 89, after 6 x 800m repeats yesterday). Tried to get to 23.xx, Finished in 24.00 dead for 3.12 miles.
Looking at the WAVA afterwards it was my 4th best ever!
If I can get to 23.45 that WAVA would beat my 22.41 PB from 6 years ago!

Fantastic running Bozza! :clap2: Really impressive effort. A 3am start time must have been super hard, both physically and mentally. Shame the wind wasn't kind to you either.

Yeah the popular saying that the marathon begins at mile 20 can ring true. It can be a cruel beast but I think that's what makes the distance so special.

Still glowing red faced from 110% effort from the Simgull paced 5k. It killed me! Wasn’t sure of pace I’m capable of at mo so faithfully followed the leader. The social distancing started to extend as we progressed. Finally at 2 to 2.5 miles in I cracked and plummeted to 8:25 mile pace. Managed to get nearer the pace when turning for the wind assistance on the run home.
Not often I crash but needed desperate measures for next Saturday’s 5k. Glad I kept going and will set off a bit slower next week.
Disappointing 21:58.
Congratulations on your time Simgull and thanks for the torture. At least I estimated someone’s pace correctly.

Still nearly a minute quicker than me today. The wind was a bit of a bugger, The training effect of your run today will help for your efforts next week.

It's weird the older I get the quicker small injury niggles seem to heal up, I am not sure if its the warm up routine or just the shape I am in.

Managed to do a pretty fast 5k this morning after having back issues 2 days ago!:rave:

Ha....wasn’t even a mile attempt [emoji23][emoji23] I’ll take it though if it at least gets me on the board

54 [emoji3525]

The table needed more names. :lolol:

It was either the mile or adding up 6.26, 6.45 and 6.55 +0.3% to get a 20 something 5K.
Great effort so near to the 50 miler.

In a cave
Morning all. Not been on here since lockdown as my password link saved on my work PC. Finally got round to getting it reset so now have access! Not read through the thread yet, its still the only one I really read on NSC, although I did look at the refund on season tickets for this season once I started getting what I thought was random payments from the Albion, but over two days they now make sense and for the first time ever I am in credit on my credit card!

I hope everyone is keeping safe and still running. Still following people through Strava. My mileage is probably the highest its ever been, but I am now trying to switch to more meaningful miles, ie intervals, hills etc rather than plodding the miles. I started this last week with some attempted faster runs (but struggling to up my speed) and yesterday did 8 miles on the South Downs from Devils Dyke to Truleigh hill and beyond. Loved it.

I am up to 779 miles for the year, so well ahead of my target of 1,500 for the year. It has been sad to miss so many races, I did the Mid Sussex Marathon weekend as a virtual race and kept to the 10m, 10m, 10k over 3 days. I was extra sad to miss the mad 26 laps of Plumpton racecourse 2 weeks ago and last Sunday I should have been doing the Torshavn Marathon in the Faroe Islands, but we have deferred that until next year.

Really missed being out with my running club but hope to link up with one or two for some runs soon. I have tbh been avoiding people as much as possible but need to get back to a bit more of a normality as set for a further 10 weeks (minimum) of working from home.

Anyway I plan to be a bit more active on here now I have logged back in

Stay strong, stay safe, keep running xx

Nice to hear from you Mr B and great that you're still loving running. That stretch of the SDW is my stomping ground, although I ventured a bit further East last weekend. Depending on how much beyond Truleigh you went, it's worth going down to the river and doing the loop to Beeding and then back up again. The climb is a bit of a killer from the river to the Youth Hostel, but the views at the top are worth it
